    Abstract: The invention is a multi-color display screen that has built in optical memory for each pixel location. The optical memory is optically read and optically programmed. The screen itself distinguishes between the specific colors from which a full-color (or multi-color) image is constructed and modulates the intensities of the component colors that it directs toward a viewer. The screen provides enhanced image resolution and reduces information bandwidth required to control the display the image.

    Abstract: A method of and apparatus for modulating an optical carrier by an incident electromagnetic field.     Abstract: The present invention provides a RF-lightwave modulator with improved efficiency by making use of a broken loop resonator having a gap therein. In the present invention a RF input signal is coupled into a broken loop resonator, thereby producing a RF output signal. An optical modulator connected across the gap receives the RF output signal and modulates a lightwave with the RF output signal to produce a RF modulated lightwave. Because the optical modulator is connected across the gap in the broken loop resonator, the voltage of the RF output signal applied to the optical modulator will be greater than the voltage of the RF input signal applied to the broken loop resonator.

    Abstract: An apparatus for preparing a RF radar transmit waveform and for decoding RF return waveforms comprising: a RF-lightwave encoder and a decoding preprocessor to phase-encode the RF radar transmit waveform and partially decode the return signal, the encoder including switched optical delay lines for producing desired RF phase shifts, and the decoding preprocessor including a tapped optical delay line and optical delay lines that counteract the delays imposed by the delay lines of the encoder, wherein the RF-lightwave encoder and the decoders allow shorter compressed pulses and larger pulse-compression ratios to be achieved than can be obtained using conventional electronic approaches. Wideband transmit waveforms can be generated due to the use of the switched optical delay lines and, unlike prior art approaches, is not restricted to single-frequency waveforms. The taps can be weighted to accomplish objectives such as reduction of side lobes in the compressed pulse.

    Abstract: An infrared photo-detector with multiple discrete regions of a first absorber material. These regions may have geometric shapes with sloped sidewalls. The detector also may include a second absorber region comprising a second absorber material that absorbs light of a shorter wavelength than the light absorbed by the multiple discrete absorber regions of the first absorber material. The geometric shapes may extend only through the first absorber material. Alternatively, the geometric shapes may extend partially into the second absorber region. The detector has a metal reflector coupled to the multiple discrete absorber regions. The detector also has a substrate containing the discrete absorber regions and the second absorber region. The substrate can further include geometric shaped features etched into the substrate, with those features formed on the side of the substrate opposite the side containing the discrete absorber regions and the second absorber region.
