Abstract: The invention relates to determining a fetal heart rate from an ultrasonic Doppler echo signal, which comprises at least two channels, including a first channel obtained for a first depth range and a second channel obtained for a second depth range. A first heart rate is determined from the first channel (51, 53, 55) and a second heart rate is determined from the second channel (52, 54, 56). External information on the fetal heart rate and/or the maternal heart rate, extracted from an independent source (60, 61, 62) such as an ECG, is used to select one of the first heart rate and the second heart rate as the fetal heart rate to be determined. A preferred embodiment provides for elimination of double counting heart rates by cutting out unwanted signal contributions. The disclosure further provides for an adaptive signal processing and data acquisition controlled by patient related data.

Abstract: A physical monitoring system for monitoring and measuring a patient's respiration is described. The system includes one or more resistive or inductive respiration belts (110a, 10b), an electronic monitoring device (102) with a processor programmed to compute respiration and a module retainer (104) for accommodating the electronic monitoring device and securing the electronic monitoring device to the one or more resistive or inductive respiration belts. The system further includes electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes (108) attached to or embedded in theone or more resistive or inductive respiration belts. The ECG electrodes are connected with the electronic monitoring module (102) via wires passing through the belts. The system can further include an accelerometer (204) integrated with one or more of the ECG electrodes that are attached to or embedded in theone or more resistive or inductive respiration belts.

Abstract: Systems and methods for predicting a physiological condition and customizing displayed physiological data. A pulse oximeter and second physiological sensor are connected to a control unit that controls a patient monitor display. A medical professional uses the patient monitor display to upload a list of symptoms and data from the pulse oximeter and the second physiological sensor to a cloud-based prediction engine to determine a likely physiological condition and determine key physiological indicators associated with the physiological condition that was not uploaded. A plurality of analysis and customization tools are also provided for analyzing, correlating, tagging, labeling, and annotating the displayed data.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to non-invasive medical devices, systems and methods for the detection of anatomical or physiological conditions. In an embodiment, a handheld coronary artery disease (CAD) detection device is used in a non-invasive manner to determine whether an internal coronary artery blockage, calcification or diffuse disease is present. In an embodiment, a data transfer system comprises a hand-held CAD detection device or other data collection device, and a networked or local computer system for storing and processing the recorded data. Supplemental devices such as a data portal device, hub, or dongle can facilitate data transfer between the data collection device and networked or local computer system.

Abstract: A system for non-invasively determining an indication of an individual's blood pressure is described. In certain embodiments, the system calculates pulse wave transit time using two acoustic sensors. The system can include a first acoustic sensor configured to monitor heart sounds of the patient corresponding to ventricular systole and diastole and a second acoustic sensor configured to monitor arterial pulse sounds at an arterial location remote from the heart. The system can advantageously calculate a arterial pulse wave transit time (PWTT) that does not include the pre-ejection period time delay. In certain embodiments, the system further includes a processor that calculates the arterial PWTT obtained from the acoustic sensors. The system can use this arterial PWTT to determine whether to trigger an occlusive cuff measurement.

Abstract: Bypass elements for medical valves and methods of using the same are disclosed. Embodiments of the invention include an insert having a tip that is adapted to displace a valve element without penetrating it, and a lumen that fluidly communicates with a lumen of a valve housing distal to the valve element when the bypass element is engaged. Bypass elements are used, in certain embodiments, to facilitate fluid pressure and ECG signal measurements through implanted medical devices including catheters.
