The polymeric membrane is adapted to permit transfer of water. In order to prevent a perfluorosulfonic acid polymer, humidifier membrane from fouling and having diminished water vapor transport performance, ammonia and cation contaminants must be removed from the ambient gas streams. Suitable cationic and ammonia scavengers include filters comprising polymers functionalized with carboxylic acid groups, phosphonic acid groups, sulfonic acid groups, perfluorosulfonic acid groups or combinations thereof.

There are provided methods for treating a gas having an undesirable odor. The methods comprise contacting the gas with an acidic aqueous oxidizing composition having a pH of about 2.0 to about 3.0 and comprising at least one cation of a metal; a sequestering agent; and H2O2 and submitting the gas and the composition to UV radiation when the gas and the composition are contacting each other, wherein the treatment permits to reduce by at least 60% intensity of the undesirable odor.

A method for removing SOx from a gas using an ethylene glycol composite solution is provided. The ethylene glycol composite solution is made by mixing ethylene glycol and/or polyethylene glycol with an organic acid and/or organic acid salt containing no nitrogen atom in a molecule, the ethylene glycol composite solution is brought into contact with the gas containing SOx to absorb the SOx in the gas, wherein x=2 and/or 3. The ethylene glycol composite solution with absorbed SOx is regenerated by one or more of a heating method, a vacuum method, a gas stripping method, an ultrasonication method, a microwave method, and a radiation method to release by-products of sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide, and the regenerated ethylene glycol composite solution is recycled for use. This method can be used for desulfurization of flue gas, burning gas, coke-oven gas, synthesis waste gas from dyestuff plants, sewage gas from chemical fiber plants, and other industrial raw material gases or waste gases containing SOx.

The present invention discloses a formaldehyde absorbent and a method for using the same, the chemical composition of the formaldehyde absorbent by weight percentage is, amino acid: 0.1-99.9%; DNA and RNA base 99.9-0.1%. The method comprises the following steps: a. dissolving the formaldehyde absorbent in solvent to form a solution or dissolving the formaldehyde absorbent in solvent and mixing the same onto a solid carrier; b. placing the solution or solid carrier in indoor space that contains formaldehyde; and c. contacting and reacting the formaldehyde-containing air with the solution or the solid carrier and then absorbing the same. The present invention not only achieves not only excellent performance in absorbing hazard gases in the air, but also features low-cost, and further causes no secondary pollution, which therefore creates great social and economical significance in improving quality of human life, safeguarding human health, and protecting environment.

In some embodiments the systems and methods facilitating the treatment of traumatic brain injury, ischemic stroke, atherosclerosis, spinal cord trauma, and neurodegenerative illnesses with compositions comprising DMSO.
