The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) related to a dry mortar composition or an emulsion/dispersion based composition having hydrophobically modified polymer compositions. The dry mortar composition or an emulsion/dispersion based composition comprises one or more polymer emulsions and/or redispersible powders, and one or more hydrophobic, and water-resistant or water-repellent additive. The emulsion/dispersion based composition can be used as a grout, a joint filler, a mastic, a pasty, textured plaster, tile adhesive, structure-latex based render, silicate render, fine dispersion render for skim coat, dispersion based tile grout, acrylate based render, latex-based primer, and colorized latex-based renders.

Provided are an aqueous bicomponent baking type automobile finishing varnish with improved acid etching resistance and preparation method thereof, the aqueous bicomponent baking type automobile finishing varnish consisting of component A and component B; component A and component B both consist of a methylacrylate monomer, an acrylate monomer, a non-acrylate monomer, an acrylic monomer, a hydroxyl-containing acrylate monomer, and a chain transfer agent. The preparation method comprises: mixing component A and component B respectively with all the starting materials to prepare a solute, adding a solvent, uniformly mixing to obtain a solution, then adding an initiator to cause a solution polymerization reaction, lastly adding a neutralizer and adjusting to a desired level of neutralization, giving an aqueous acrylic resin A and an aqueous acrylic resin B respectively, lastly mixing the two given substances, adding a crosslinking agent and then water to adjust to the desired viscosity, thus obtaining the product. The product has excellent overall performance, especially good acid etching resistance, and lower raw material prices, and is an environmentally-friendly aqueous finishing varnish.

(1) Transferring at least part of the first zone reaction product to a second reactor zone selected from a second autoclave reactor zone or a tubular reactor zone, and (2) at least one of transferring or freshly injecting a feed comprising a CTA system into the second reactor zone to produce a second zone reaction product, the CTA system of the second reactor zone having a transfer activity of Z2; and with the proviso that the ratio of Z1:Z2 is greater than 1. The toughness modifier for a curable resin (D) is obtained by emulsion-polymerizing 5 to 50% by mass of a vinyl monomer (B) in the presence of 50 to 95% by mass of a rubber polymer (A) latex (calculated as the rubber polymer component) using 0.5 to 15 parts by mass of a nonionic reactive surfactant (C) (relative to 100 parts by mass of a total of (A) and (B)).

The present invention is directed to a coating composition comprising a vinyl acrylic copolymer latex wherein said copolymer latex has a water contact angle of about 60° or higher on the dried latex film surface, wherein said copolymer latex further has a specific water vapor permeability of about 0.5 mg/cm2/mm/24 hr. The invention is also directed to the copolymer latex itself. Further, the invention is a method of improving a coating's ability to withstand a high humidity environment comprising adding a vinyl acrylic copolymer latex to the coating composition wherein said copolymer latex has a water contact angle of about 60° or higher on the dried latex film surface, and wherein said copolymer latex further has a specific water vapor permeability of about 0.5 mg/cm2/mm/24 hr.

The crosslinked, nonionic amphiphilic polymer is prepared by dispersion polymerization in the presence of a stabilizing polymer. The yield stress fluid is capable of suspending insoluble materials in the form of particulates and/or droplets requiring suspension or stabilization.

Described herein are the synthesis and polymerization of a series of N-Boc-protected amino acid vinyl ester (BAAVE) monomers. Homopolymers and heteropolymers containing the monomers are described, particularly heteropolymers with vinyl ester monomers such as vinyl acetate. Deprotection can be used to produce hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers that are particular useful in biological applications such as cellular delivery of biological materials.
