Abstract: A battery pack includes battery cells arranged a distance above a battery tray such that an exhaust passage is defined between the battery cells and the battery tray. Each respective one of the battery cells includes a casing defining a cell cavity therein and having an end surface disposed proximate the battery tray, an anode and a cathode disposed within the cell cavity, and a sacrificial vent cap. The sacrificial vent cap is constructed at least partially of a polymeric material and connected to the end surface of the casing. The sacrificial vent cap is configured to melt or fracture at a predetermined temperature or pressure, respectively, to thereby connect the cell cavity to the exhaust passage.

Abstract: A battery pack, a vehicle, and an energy storage device are provided. The battery pack includes a cell array and a support member, where the cell array includes a plurality of cells, the cell has a first dimension, and the first dimension is a maximum spacing between two imaginary parallel planes sandwiching the cell; and at least one of the cells 600 mm≤first dimension≤2500 mm the at least one cell includes a casing and a core located inside the casing, a supporting region is formed on the casing, and the cell is connected to the support member through the supporting region and is supported by the support member. The support member is connected to the supporting region to support the cell.

Abstract: An apparatus for storing and/or charging lithium-ion batteries, the apparatus having one or more enclosures for receiving a battery, each of the enclosures having a common wall disposed between the top and the bottom of the enclosure, the common wall has openings that extend through it, a free-flowing granulate having fire extinguishing properties is associated with the common wall and a barrier formed from a material that disintegrates upon exposure to heat covers at least some of the common wall openings so that when a battery fire occurs, the barrier is caused to disintegrate and the granulate will pass through the common wall openings and onto the fire.
