    Abstract: A white light emitting device or LED-filament comprises: a solid-state light emitter (LED) operable to generate excitation light; a first phosphor associated with the solid-state light emitter to generate light with a peak emission wavelength in a range 500 nm to 575 nm; and a second phosphor associated with the solid-state light emitter to generate light with a peak emission wavelength in a range 600 nm to 650 nm, wherein a percentage decrease in conversion efficiency corresponding to an increase in excitation light photon density exhibited by the second phosphor is larger than a percentage decrease in conversion efficiency corresponding to the same increase in excitation light photon density exhibited by the first phosphor.

    Abstract: A white light emitting package (20) comprises: a solid-state excitation source (LED 30) for generating excitation light with a dominant wavelength in a range 440 nm to 470 nm; and a layered photoluminescence structure. The layered photoluminescence structure comprises a first photoluminescence layer (32) comprising from 75 wt % to 100 wt % of a manganese-activated fluoride photoluminescence material of the total photoluminescence material content of the first photoluminescence layer, and a second photoluminescence layer (34) comprising photoluminescence material for generating light with a peak emission wavelength in a range from 500 nm to 650 nm. The second photoluminescence layer is disposed on the first photoluminescence layer and the first photoluminescence layer is in closer proximity to the solid-state excitation source than the second photoluminescence layer.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed toward white light illumination systems (so called “white LEDs”) that comprise a multi-chip excitation source and a phosphor package. In a two-chip source, the two LEDs may be UV-emitting and blue emitting, or blue-emitting and green-emitting. The phosphor package is configured to emit photoluminescence in wavelengths ranging from about 440 nm to about 700 nm upon co-excitation from the first and second radiation sources. The photoluminescence emitted by the phosphors is at least 40 percent of the total power in the white light illumination, and the portion of the total power in the white light illumination contributed by the first and second radiation sources (LEDs) is less than about 60 percent. This ratio can vary in alternative embodiments, and includes 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, and 80/20, respectively. The white light illumination emitted by the system has in one embodiment a color rendering index (CRI) greater than about 90.

    Abstract: A photoluminescent composition (“phosphor ink”) comprises a suspension of particles of at least one blue light (380 nm to 480 nm) excitable phosphor material in a light transmissive liquid binder in which the weight loading of at least one phosphor material to binder material is in a range 40% to 75%. The binder can be U.V. curable, thermally curable, solvent based or a combination thereof and comprise a polymer resin; a monomer resin, an acrylic, a silicone or a fluorinated polymer. The composition can further comprise particles of a light reflective material suspended in the liquid binder. Photoluminescence wavelength conversion components; solid-state light emitting devices; light emitting signage surfaces and light emitting signage utilizing the composition are disclosed.
