An air conditioning apparatus using a refrigerating cycle in which a scroll compressor is used to compress a refrigerant. The scroll compressor is driven by an induction motor. The speed of the induction motor is controlled by a PWM type inverter which produces an AC voltage of variable frequency. A carrier frequency higher than 10 KHz is used to effect pulse width modulation of the AC voltage of the inverter, whereby generation of uncomfortable noise is avoided. A control unit is provided to detect slip of the induction motor and to adjust the detached slip to a predetermined optimum value, thereby avoiding excessive lowering of the speed of the motor which may cause lack of lubricating oil for the compressor.

According to the present invention, a silicon wafer, silicon dioxide wafer or silicon wafer having a silicon dioxide film thereon can be mutually adhered. The procedure for the adhesion is that a refractory metal, such as zirconium, is deposited by sputtering on a flat surface to be adhered, and tightly stacked onto another substrate made of silicon, silicon dioxide or silicon having a silicon dioxide film thereto, and the stacked wafers are heated in an atmosphere of argon containing 4% hydrogen at approximately 650.degree. C. for approximately 2 hours. The heat causes the deposited zirconium to react with the silicon of both the contacting wafers and is converted into a zirconium silicide alloy, which bonds the wafers. If the wafer is silicon dioxide or coated with silicon dioxide, the zirconium reduces the dioxide to produce silicon, which is then alloyed with the zirconium. Refractory metals other than group IVa and group Va elements can adhere silicon to silicon only. Advantages of this adhesion method are: the process is carried out at approximately 650.degree. C., which does not harm fabricated devices; the adhesion withstands temperatures of 1000.degree. C. which are used for fabricating devices; and the processing does not require strict control of the surface conditions. This method can be applied to the process of making SOI, a wafer-scale integrated LSi, or a three-dimensional LSI.

A diagnostic system of an air-fuel ratio control device including an O.sub.2 sensor and an air bleed control valve actuated in response to a signal output by the O.sub.2 sensor. When the electric control current fed into the air bleed control valve reaches an upper limit or lower limit and remains at the upper limit or lower limit for a fixed time, the diagnostic system determines that the air-fuel ratio control device has malfunctioned. When the temperature of the engine cooling water is high, a diagnosis is prohibited, to prevent an incorrect diagnosis.

Disclosed is a method of igniting in an internal combustion engine comprising a main combustion chamber and an auxiliary combustion chamber which are interconnected to each other by a connecting passage. The spark gap of the spark plug is located in the connecting passage. A ratio of the volume of the auxiliary combustion chamber to the cross-sectional area of the connecting passage is set in the range of 5 through 15 cm for creating a strong swirl motion of the combustible mixture in the auxiliary combustion chamber at the time of the compression stroke. The length of the continuance time of the discharging arc is set at approximately 1 m sec.

A conveyer belt is disposed along the lengthwise direction of the above-mentioned textile machine so as to receive the yarn packages from the textile machine and the yarn packages are received by respective receiving rods which are utilized for carrying the yarn packages to the subsequent process. An auxiliary device for regulating the lengthwise direction of the tube of each yarn package in a condition of alignment with the receiving rod is disposed between the conveyer belt and the position where the receiving rod is capable of receiving the yarn package.

Herein disclosed is an internal combustion engine of ignition timing controllable type for use with an automotive vehicle. The internal combustion engine includes, as customary, an intake system including a carburetor having a throttle valve, a distributor, and an ignition timing regulating device connected to the distributor and having a diaphragm chamber to which a control vacuum is supplied. The internal combustion engine further includes a first port from which a carburetor vacuum having relationship to the opening of the throttle valve is taken out, a second port from which an intake vacuum is taken out, and a first direction control valve operable in relationship to the speed of rotation of the internal combustion engine or to the running speed of the automotive vehicle. The first and second ports are selectively connected to the diaphragm chamber of the ignition timing regulating device by way of the first direction control valve, so that during a low speed driving condition of the engine the intake vacuum taken out from the second port may be supplied to the diaphragm chamber to retard the ignition timing, so that during a high speed driving condition of the internal combustion engine a low carburetor vacuum taken out from the first-named port may be supplied to said diaphragm chamber to advance the ignition timing, and so that upon deceleration from a high speed driving condition a high carburetor vacuum taken out from the first port may be supplied to the diaphragm chamber to retard the ignition timing.
