摘要: The invention relates to unique applications for the novel high melt flow, low viscosity, selectively hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-styrene (hSBS) or selectively hydrogenated controlled distribution styrene-butadiene/styrene-styrene (hSBSS) block copolymers, wherein the melt flow rate of said block copolymer is at least 100 g/10 min at 230° C. under 2.16 kg mass according to ASTM D1238. These block copolymers are novel and have the highest melt flow rate of any styrenic block copolymer also possessing high strength and elasticity. It has applications that prior to the present invention were not normally possible due to the normal low melt flow rate of styrenic block copolymers. The present invention also encompasses various fields of use such as a fiberglass hSBS or hSBSS reinforced mat, low viscosity hSBS or hSBSS coatings for industrial uses, hot melt adhesives prepared from hSBS or hSBSS blended with polyalpha-olefins, and elastic film, fiber, and nonwoven constructions using hSBS or hSBSS.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a process for preparing a polymer modified bituminous binder composition in the substantial absence of crosslinking agents by heating a bitumen component in a stirred tank to a temperature from 185° C. to 221° C.; adding a block copolymer composition to the bitumen component while the bitumen component is being stirred to form a homogeneous mixture of the bitumen component and the block copolymer composition; and continuing to stir the homogeneous mixture while maintaining the temperature from 185° C. to 221° C. for a period of time from 4 hours to 30 hours thereby forming a cured polymer modified bituminous binder composition. The block copolymer composition utilized in the process comprises a diblock copolymer comprising one block of a monovinylaromatic hydrocarbon and one block of a conjugated diene having a peak molecular weight from 30,000 to 78,000 and a vinyl content from 35 to 80 mol percent based on the number of repeat monomer units in the conjugated diene block, and optionally one or more block copolymers comprising at least two blocks of monovinylaromatic hydrocarbon and at least one block of conjugated diene, the block copolymer selected from linear triblock copolymers having a peak molecular weight that is 1.5 to 3.0 times the peak molecular weight of the diblock copolymer, multiarm coupled block copolymers having a peak molecular weight that is 1.5 to 9.0 times the peak molecular weight of the diblock copolymer, and mixtures thereof, wherein each block copolymer has a vinyl content from 35 to 80 mol percent based on the number of repeat monomer units in the conjugated diene block, wherein when both (i) and (ii) are present in the block copolymer composition, the ratio of (i) to (ii) is greater than 1:1. The present invention is further related to an alternative to this process, a specific class of bituminous binder compositions and concentrates and a specific class of block copolymer compositions.

摘要: Elastomeric films which are both soft and thermally, UV and oxidatively stable are provided. The films are composed of coupled, selectively hydrogenated block copolymers having a relatively high molecular weight and high vinyl content. In addition to the block copolymer other components may be present in formulated films such as other block copolymers, hydrocarbon resins, polyolefins, metallocene polyolefins, homopolystyrene or mineral oils. The softness of the films is determined by the stress at 100% tensile elongation where the films with suitable softness have a 100% stress of about 100 psi or less. While soft, the films also are strong with tensile strengths of 1000 psi or more and suitable hysteresis properties. The elastomeric films are useful as integral components of personal hygiene articles such as gloves, diapers, incontinence products, disposable swimwear and disposable undergarments.

摘要: The present invention relates to a synthetic cement that comprises a low viscosity monofunctional monomer, a dicyclopentadienyl moiety having a pendant free radical reactive species, 1,3-butyleneglycol dimethacrylate, unsaturated styrenic block copolymer, and a peroxide curing agent. Additionally it may include weighting agents depending on the circumstances of the well, as is well known to those skilled in the art. Other additional components such as oil based mud, suspending agents, Portland cement, acrylates and methacrylates, retardant curing additives, and clays may optionally be incorporated into the synthetic cement. The synthetic cement is activated by heat, for example, and can be crafted to set within a certain time frame, for example in 4 hours, so that it pumpable for as long as need be, and then be set to seal the well in the manner desired.

摘要: The present invention relates to an improved method for making sulfonated block copolymers and to methods for making membranes from such block copolymers. In particular, the present invention relates to an improved method for making sulfonated block copolymers having at least two polymer end blocks that are resistant to sulfonation and at least one polymer interior block that is susceptible to sulfonation where the sulfonation agent is C2 to C8 acyl sulfate. In the improved process the residual carboxylic acid formed from the C2 to C8 acyl sulfate is converted to C1 to C4 alkyl esters by contacting the residual carboxylic acid with at least a 0.9:1 molar ratio of a C1 to C4 alcohol to residual carboxylic acid, resulting in an improved sulfonated block copolymer solution. The present invention further relates to the use of such sulfonated block copolymer solutions to prepare various membranes and other articles.
