    摘要: In an exhaust emission control system in an internal combustion engine which includes a spark plug disposed to face a combustion chamber, an intake system having a fuel injection valve disposed therein, an exhaust system having a catalytic converter incorporated therein and filled with a catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxide (NO.sub.x) in the presence of hydrocarbons in an oxidizing atmosphere, and an exhaust gas circulation amount control means capable of measuring and controlling the amount of exhaust gas circulated from the exhaust system to the intake system. The amount of exhaust gas circulated by the exhaust gas circulation amount control means the amount and timing of fuel injected by the fuel injection valve and the timing of ignition of the spark plug are controlled by a control unit, so that the amount of NO.sub.x discharged, is detected by the NO.sub.x detector in the exhaust system at a location downstream from the catalytic converter, is equal to or less than an acceptable amount of NO.sub.x discharged which acceptable amount is set in accordance with the number of revolutions of the engine detected by a revolution-number detector as well as the engine load detected by a load detector. Thus, it is possible to control the concentration and type of hydrocarbons and the temperature of the catalyst to increase the elimination rate of NO.sub.x.

    摘要: An engine cooling system comprises a cooling water circulation circuit interconnecting an engine body and a radiator, a bypass circuit connected to the cooling water circulation circuit to bypass the radiator, an electric-powered water pump disposed in the cooling water circulation circuit adjacent an engine inlet, a flow rate control valve for controlling the flow rate of cooling water flowing through the radiator, an outlet water temperature detector for detecting an engine outlet water temperature in the cooling water circulation circuit, an inlet water temperature detector for detecting an engine inlet water temperature in the cooling water circulation circuit, and a control means for controlling the operation of the water pump in accordance with at least the engine outlet water temperature and controlling the operation of the flow rate control valve in accordance with at least the engine inlet water temperature to thereby properly control the temperature of the cooling water in accordance with the operational condition of the engine.

    摘要: An ignition timing control system controls ignition timing of spark plugs of an internal combustion engine associated with a plurality of changeover devices, changeover of an operative state of each of which has influence upon output torque of the engine. Operating conditions of the engine are detected. A basic ignition timing advance value is calculated based on results of detection of the operating conditions of the engine. A changeover of the operative state of each of the changeover devices is detected. A correction value for correcting the basic ignition timing advance value for suppressing the engine torque is calculated, in response to results of detection of the changeover of the operative state of each of the changeover devices. The largest one of a plurality of the correction values calculated is selected to a final correction value to be used for correcting the basic ignition timing advance value, when changeovers of the operative states of at least two of the changeover devices are detected substantially at the same time.

    摘要: There is provided a catalyst deterioration-detecting system for an internal combustion engine having at least one catalyst arranged in the exhaust passage, for purifying noxious components present in exhaust gases emitted from the engine, and an exhaust gas component concentration sensor arranged in the exhaust passage at a location downstream of the catalyst, for detecting concentration of a specific component in the exhaust gases. An ECU of the system controls the ignition timing of the engine, and detects the degree of deterioration of the catalyst, based on an output value from the exhaust gas component concentration sensor. The ignition timing of the engine is retarded in dependence on the detected degree of deterioration of the catalyst.
