Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing a sulphur-free metal salt of a hydrocarbyl-substituted phosphorus compound and an organo-sulphide. The composition has a sulphur content of greater than 0.3 weight percent of sulphur. The invention further provides for a method of lubricating a driveline device by using a lubricating composition.
Abstract:
Various novel urazole compositions have been discovered that may be generally represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein T and Q may be the same or different and represent hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, sulfur, phosphorus, boron, a metal cation, acyloxy hydrocarbyl, imido hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl repeating units, hydrocarbyl urazole (I) containing repeating units, an acyl urazole repeating units, an acyl group, or hydrocarbyl acyl containing group, a repeating unit of an acyl group, a repeating unit of a hydrocarbyl acyl containing group, or together form a pi bond between the two nitrogen atoms and A is hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, a hydrocarbyl urazole I group, a repeating unit of a hydrocarbyl containing acyl group or a repeating unit of a hydrocarbyl containing acyl group which is bonded directly to or through a hydrocarbyl group to another urazole (I) group. These compositions may be formulated with functional fluids for use in motorized vehicles.

Abstract:
Continuously variable transmissions are lubricated by supplying to the transmission a composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity and an oil-soluble zinc salt containing at least one hydrocarbyl group of at least 4 carbon atoms. The amount of the zinc salt is sufficient to provide an increased steel-on-steel dynamic coefficient of friction for the composition, being at least 0.125. The composition is substantially free from thiophosphate salts and exhibits a copper corrosion rating of 1B or better (ASTM-130).
Abstract:
Trithiane and phosphorus and/or thiophosphorus acid derivatives are described which are useful as extreme pressure compositions. The process comprises a reaction product obtained by reacting (A) an aldehyde of the structure ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group containing from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms with (B) a phosphorus acid of the structure ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each independently a hydrocarbyl group containing from 1 to about 30 carbon atoms, X.sup.1 and X.sup.2 are each independently oxygen or sulfur and n is independently zero or one in the presence of a lubricating base oil. A neutralizing agent, component (C), may be reacted with the phosphorus acid and/or thiophosphorus acid intermediate formed by the reaction of components (A) and (B).
Abstract:
Reaction mixtures made from reacting one or more substituted di- and triazines of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Q and Q' are each independently halo, hydrocarbyloxy of the formula --OR and hydrocarbyl of the formula --R, wherein each R independently contains up to about 20 carbon atoms, with the proviso that at least one of Q and Q' is either hydrocarbyloxy or halogen; X and X' are each independently oxygen, divalent sulfur, .dbd.NH, and .dbd.NR.sub.1 wherein R.sub.1 is hydrocarbyl up to about 20 carbon atoms; and each R' is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl of up to about 10 carbon atoms; with (B) one or more mercapto compounds such as mercaptans, thiolphosphorus acids, thiocarbamates, and thiocarbonates are useful in fuels and lubricants.

Abstract:
A coupler is described for use in carbon black filled rubber compositions. The coupler includes an amine group and a thiol group or a polysulfidic linkage. The coupler improves the interaction of the carbon black with the rubber as measured by a decrease in the tan delta at 60° C. while substantially maintaining the tan delta at 0° C.
