摘要: In a method for testing the thermally induced unbalance of a rotating machine part, in particular the rotor of a turbogenerator, the rotating machine part or the rotor balanced at normal temperature is brought in the demounted state first to nominal rotational speed and held at this, while its temperature is varied and, at the same time, the transient variations in oscillations of the rotating machine part or rotor which are caused are measured. During the test, the rotating machine part or the rotor is surrounded at least partially by a closed heating cell, a cooling medium flows around and/or flows through the rotating machine part or the rotor in the heating cell, and the heating of the rotating machine part or of the rotor takes place essentially due to the flow-dynamic losses arising from the interaction of the rotating machine part or of the rotor with the circulating cooling medium.

摘要: A machine requiring periodic maintenance, such as a vending machine, is retrofitted to include an alert system for notifying a machine operator that the machine requires servicing. The alert system includes one or more sensors to detect default conditions, a voice recorder for storing one or more voice messages corresponding to default conditions, a transmitter for transmitting the voice messages to the machine operator, and a trigger connected to the one or more sensors and the transmitter for selectively initiating the transmission of appropriate voice messages in accordance with predetermined parameters. The voice messages are transmitted over the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to be heard by the machine operator or stored on the machine operator's voice answering system. The transmitter may be a simple auto dialer connected by wires to a nearby phone jack. However, in a preferred embodiment, the transmitter is constructed in similar manner to the transmitter of a cordless telephone in which the monitored machine includes a short range transmitter operating at 900 MHz or 2200 MHz for transmitting a voice message to a corresponding receiver connected to a nearby phone jack. The voice message is then transmitted over the PSTN to the machine operator. The alert system of the present invention may also include a clock connected to the trigger for causing the voice messages to be transmitted only a predetermined times of the day.

摘要: A method of producing a structural beam (10) with openings located in the web, which comprises the steps of taking a universal beam, making a cut (18) generally longitudinally along the web thereof, making a second cut (20) along the web on a path differing from the first path of the first cut, separating the cut halves of the beam, and welding the halves together, characterized in that: a width of material or ribbon (28) is defined by the two cuts (18, 20) of amount equal to the desired reduction in depth of the finished cellular beam.

摘要: A composite structure comprises a dual-function material intermediate a conducting material and a semiconductor. The dual-function material comprises an organic material and at least one ionic species such that the organic material has both electronic charge transport properties and supports or chelates the at least one ionic species. The conducting material comprises an ohmic conductor, a semiconducting material or an ionic conductor. The composite structures are suitable for use in electrochemical devices such as photo-voltaic cells, photodiodes, batteries, electrodes, electrochromic devices and light-emitting diodes.
