    摘要: A method is provided of installing device drivers in a host processing system coupled to a number of peripheral devices. At system initialization, the host processing system requests the peripheral devices to which it is coupled to each provide a device code for identifying the type of the peripheral device. The host processing system receives the device codes from the peripheral devices and transmits the device codes to a remote server over a network, such as the Internet. The remote server selects an appropriate device driver for each peripheral device from a plurality of stored device drivers based on the device codes received from the host processing system and then transmits the device drivers to the host processing system over the network. This driver download process is carried out with no intervention from the user.

    摘要: An expansion port for a processing system peripheral device provides for a system power down prior to connection of another device to the port. A number of devices in a processing system are connected in a daisy chain. One of the devices includes a power supply for supplying power to each of the devices. Each of the devices includes a segment of an enable circuit for enabling or disabling the power supply. Each of the devices further includes an expansion port for connecting the enable circuit and other signals to another device in the daisy chain. An access panel is provided to cover the expansion port when the port is not in use. When the access panel is closed a switch located at the expansion port and coupled to the enable circuit of the device is actuated in order to enable the power supply. When the access panel is not in place and no other device is connected to the expansion port, the switch is in a different position which causes the power supply to be disabled. If another device is properly connected to the expansion port, then the switch is in the first position to cause the power supply to be enabled, provided all other devices in the daisy chain are also properly connected. Accordingly, removal of an access panel on one of the devices while power to the system is on causes power to the system to be removed before another device can be connected to the expansion port, thus preventing damaging electrical transients from occurring upon connection to the expansion port.

    摘要: A system and method are described which enable planned evolution and obsolescence of multiuser wireless spectrum. One embodiment of such a system includes one or multiple centralized processors and one or multiple distributed nodes that communicate via wireline or wireless connections. The distributed nodes may share their identification number and other reconfigurable system parameters with the centralized processor. The information about all distributed nodes may be stored in a database that is shared by all centralized processors. The reconfigurable system parameters may comprise power emission, frequency band, modulation/coding scheme. The distributed nodes may be software defined radios such as FPGA, DSP, GPU and/or GPCPU that run algorithms for baseband signal processing and may be reconfigured remotely by the centralized processor. A cloud wireless system may be used wherein the distributed nodes are reconfigured periodically or instantly to adjust to the evolving wireless architecture.

    摘要: A system and method are described herein employing a plurality of distributed transmitting antennas to create locations in space with zero RF energy. In one embodiment, when M transmit antennas are employed, it is possible to create up to (M−1) points of zero RF energy in predefined locations. In one embodiment of the invention, the points of zero RF energy are wireless devices and the transmit antennas are aware of the channel state information (CSI) between the transmitters and the receivers. In one embodiment, the CSI is computed at the receivers and fed back to the transmitters. In another embodiment, the CSI is computed at the transmitter via training from the receivers, assuming channel reciprocity is exploited. The transmitters may utilize the CSI to determine the interfering signals to be simultaneously transmitted. In one embodiment, block diagonalization (BD) precoding is employed at the transmit antennas to generate points of zero RF energy.
