摘要: The present invention provides a method for forming on a medical device, preferably an ophthalmic lens, more preferably a contact lens, a diffusion-controllable coating capable of controlling the out-diffusion or release of guest materials from the medical device. The method of the invention comprises: (1) applying one layer of clay and optionally one or more layers of polyionic materials onto the medical device; or (2) applying alternatively a layer of a first polyionic material and a layer of a second polyionic material having charges opposite of the charges of the first polyionic material onto the medical device and releasing the coated medical device into a releasing medium having a composition capable of imparting a desired permeability to the diffusion-controllable coating on the medical device.

摘要: The present invention provides a medical device, preferably a contact lens, which comprises an antimicrobial coating including at least one layer of polyquat of formula (I) or (II). The antimicrobial coating on the medical device of the invention has a high antimicrobial efficacy against microorganisms including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial, a low toxicity, low coefficient of friction, and increased hydrophilicity while maintaining the desired bulk properties such as oxygen permeability and ion permeability of lens material. Such lenses are useful as extended-wear contact lenses. In addition, the invention provides a method for making a medical device, preferably a contact lens, having an antimicrobial coating thereon.

摘要: The invention provides a method of making ophthalmic lenses with an enhanced quality and enhanced yield achieved by reducing mold separation force and lens-mold adhesion. The method comprises the steps of generating an atmospheric plasma flow from a working gas and controlling the continuity of the atmospheric plasma flow with a power generator, and, introducing the atmospheric plasma flow to a molding surface of a mold for making an ophthalmic lens (preferably contact lens, more preferably a silicone hydrogel contact lens) and increasing the surface hydrophobicity of the molding surface of the mold and thereby to reduce a mold separation force after molding a lens formulation in the mold.

摘要: Comblike, surfactant polymers for changing the surface properties of biomaterials are provided. Such surfactant polymers comprise a polymeric backbone of repeating monomeric units having functional groups for coupling with side chains, a plurality of hydrophobic side chains linked to the backbone via the functional groups, and a plurality of hydrophilic side chains linked to said backbone via the functional groups. Medical devices coated with the surfactant polymers are also provided. The surfactant polymers may be used to decrease the thrombogenic properties, encapsulation, and bacterial colonization of medical devices.
