摘要: A system and method in accordance with the invention provides efficient allocation of network resources to network virtual connections while providing reliable and guaranteed quality of service. Such a system is generally used in a network that includes a plurality of nodes and a plurality of links interconnecting the nodes. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, for each connection in the network established between a pair of nodes, a normal path ni between the nodes having a rate Ni is established and an alternate, or backup, path bi having a rate Bi is established. Information is only transmitted on the backup path in the event of a failure on the normal path. The system further maintains information for each link as to the resources, such as bandwidth, utilized by the connections. The system then utilizes the maintained information to determine whether new connections can be accommodated and still meet quality of service guarantees. An embodiment of the invention can also be adapted for use in a network that has two attachments to an external network (such as the Internet) and still use resources efficiently.

摘要: In accordance with the invention, a system and method for providing QoS to packets formatted in accordance with one protocol (e.g., IP or Ethernet) carried over networks that are originally designed to be used with another protocol (e.g., ATM, WDM, or TDM). In one embodiment of the invention, such a switch is modified in order to allow the switch to become “IP-aware.” Such a modified switch can identify IP packets, determine if any packets should be dropped, classify the packets with a queue, and schedule the packets of each queue in a manner that provides quality of service to the packets in the queue. Moreover, some embodiments of a modified switch further include a monitor to keep statistics on the packets in the modified switch, a protection mechanism that monitors fault information for at least part of the network, and a provisioning mechanism that determines normal and backup paths for each connection.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a system and method to implement end-to-end QoS for connections in IP-based networks, even when the communications are between different subnetworks. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, QoS is provided between subnet routers that are attached to the network through a network backbone. An embodiment of the invention can differentiate connections between routers and can classify data streams for both inter-subnet and intra-subnet connections using only information provided in the IP headers and without requiring any special tags or other identifiers to be added to the packet.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for controlling transmission of a base station, such as a Femto cell, based on the determined quality of a backhaul connection to a network are disclosed. In particular, a quality of a backhaul connection of a base station to a node in a communication network is determined. Based on this quality determination, transmission from the base station is either limited or stopped when the determined quality fails to meet a predefined condition. The degradation in quality of the backhaul connection, for example, affects the ability of the base station to offer sufficient service to access terminals. By limiting or stopping wireless transmission of the base station when the backhaul quality is degraded, access terminals either currently accessing the base station or attempting to connect to the base station can then more efficaciously hand off to another base station or access point.

摘要: A position fix for a mobile platform is determined using RSSI values for wireless signals received from access points (APs), at least one of which has dynamic transmission power control. The transmission power data for the APs is received from an entity separate from the APs, e.g., a central entity or a positioning assistance server. The RSSI values for wireless signals received from the APs are acquired, as is an RSSI heatmap. Using the transmission power data, the RSSI values and the RSSI heatmap, the position fix for the mobile platform is determined. The position fix may be determined by the mobile platform or a positioning assistance server. Additionally, a server may receive transmission power data for APs and may provide to a mobile platform RSSI heatmap information based on the transmission power data. The RSSI heatmap information may be, e.g., the transmission power data or a RSSI heatmap.

摘要: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate indicating global cell identifier (GCI) reporting in wireless communication to mitigate confusion caused by physical cell identifier (PCI) reporting in heterogeneous deployments. In particular, mobile devices can report GCI of access points to disparate access points to facilitate communication therebetween, such as during handover. Mobile devices can indicate GCI reporting during a system access request by selecting an access sequence corresponding to subsequent GCI reporting. Based on the access sequence, an access point can grant additional resources to receive the GCI, and the mobile device can communicate GCI over the resources. Using the GCI, the access point can communicate with a disparate access point related to the GCI.
