摘要: An NOx sensor 27 detects the concentration of NOx released from an occlusion type NOx catalyst 25 into the atmosphere. Based on the output of the NOx sensor 27, a total NOx discharge A is computed. When the total NOx discharge A reaches an NOx emission judgment amount A0, corresponding to an NOx emission judgment amount designated by NOx emission regulations, before a distance traveled C reaches a predetermined distance traveled C0, an exhaust air-fuel ratio is changed to a rich air-fuel ratio to release NOx from the occlusion type NOx catalyst 25 efficiently. Then, the exhaust air-fuel ratio is changed to a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio to purify and reduce NOx by a three-way catalyst function.

摘要: A running control method and a running control system for a vehicle to control the engine output according to the effects of slope, wind, and change in vehicle weight, in which a reference traction force is determined as the sum of a mechanism friction, an acceleration force, and an air drag, the difference between an actually measured total traction force an the reference traction force is determined to obtain an environmental effect value. The environmental effect value represents an increase or decrease in traction force with respect to that in a flat, windless road for a standard vehicle weight. A throttle valve or a fuel injection control governer is feedback-controlled according to the environmental effect value, thereby improving the control response.

摘要: An engine cooling device comprises an oil jacket surrounding a cylinder portion of an engine, an oil gallery supplying high-pressure oil to various parts of the engine, and an oil pressure regulator disposed between the oil jacket and the oil gallery to reduce the pressure of the high-pressure oil supplied from the oil gallery and to supply the oil at a reduced pressure to the oil jacket. Thus, the required mechanical strength of the oil jacket can be decreased to decrease the weight of the engine cylinder block.

摘要: A vehicle engine control device includes an operation-degree detecting device for detecting the degree of each operation of a manually operated member effected to control the output of the engine via a throttle valve actuator and a throttle valve; a target acceleration setting device for generating a target acceleration signal corresponding to the degree of the operation of the manually operated member; an acceleration detecting device for detecting each operative acceleration of the vehicle; and a control signal outputting device for comparing the target acceleration signal, which has been generated from the target acceleration setting device, with the detection results from the accelerating detecting device and then outputting a control signal to the actuator so as to control the degree to which the throttle valve is opened in such a way that the operative acceleration of the vehicle is controlled to the target acceleration.

摘要: An in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, which includes a main fuel injection control unit that drives a fuel injector to inject fuel directly into a combustion chamber, is provided so that premixed combustion or stratified charge combustion takes place depending upon operating conditions of the engine. The engine further includes an additional fuel injection control unit that drives the fuel injector to inject additional fuel during an expansion stroke after the fuel injector is driven by the main fuel injection control unit, when it is necessary to increase the temperature of a catalyst provided in an exhaust passage for purifying exhaust gas. An exhaust manifold includes an exhaust chamber, in which the exhaust gas remains, and the additional fuel that is left unburned is re-burned in the exhaust chamber.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus, which is intended to improve hydrocarbon purifying performance and simplify the after-treatment of adsorbed hydrocarbon, an in which a three way valve 51 is operated under the control of a controller 80 to cause a bypass exhaust gas passage 30 to be communicated with a main exhaust gas passage, so that hydrocarbon in exhaust gas is adsorbed onto an adsorption catalyst 40 when the temperature of a three way catalyst 20 in the main exhaust gas passage 13 is low. When the three way catalyst temperature increases, the bypass exhaust gas passage is shut off from the main exhaust gas passage by the three way valve and the adsorption catalyst is heated by a heater 60, so that the adsorbed hydrocarbon is oxidized at the adsorption catalyst to form a harmless substance.

摘要: The invention provides a device for detecting an air fuel ratio of an air fuel mixture supplied to the combustion apparatus of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a sensor cell for developing an electric signal in response to the difference between the concentration of oxygen an exhaust gas and the concentration of oxygen in a reference gas, a controlling means for developing an electric control signal having a polarity determined from an output of the sensor cell, a pump cell for moving oxygen ions in response to an electric control signal received from the controlling means, a control current detecting means for detecting control current flow between the controlling means and the pump cell, an air fuel ratio detecting means for detecting the air fuel ratio from the control current flow, and a stoichiometric air fuel ratio detecting means for detecting the direction of the control current flow so as to determine the stoichiometric air fuel ratio.

摘要: An intake port device comprises an intake port (9) formed by a straight part (13) and a helical part (15), and a valve (17) disposed adjacent to the inlet of the intake port. In order that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied to an engine without being encountered with a large resistance even in a light-loaded condition of the engine, the valve (17) is held in its closed position without causing any sharp decrease in the coefficient of intake air flow when closed. In a modification of the intake port device, the valve (17) holds open the lower half of the intake port 9 in its closed position, so that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied without being encounted with a large resistance even when the load of the engine is light. In another modification of the intake port device, the free end of the valve (17) is bent and deformed in the downstream direction of intake air so that the flow of intake air may not be encountered with a large resistance.
