摘要: A system for equalizing amplitude tilt distortion in a signal includes an amplitude tilt maker and an amplitude tilt sensor. The input signal is split in the amplitude tilt maker between a signal through path and a phase shifted, time delayed signal path. The phase shifted, time delayed signal then passes through a voltage controlled attenuator. Combining the phase shifted, time delayed signal with the signal that travels along the signal through path provides the amplitude tilt. The tilt can be adjusted by changing the control voltage to the attenuator in order to compensate for amplitude tilt distortion in the input signal. The voltage controlled attenuator is controlled by the amplitude tilt sensor, which “senses” the tilt using a loop signal from the amplitude tilt maker.

摘要: A porous mullite composition is made by Forming a mixture of one or more precursor compounds having the elements present in mullite (e.g., clay, alumina, silica) and a property enhancing compound. The property enhancing compound is a compound having an element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Fe, Na, K, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Th, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, B, Y, Sc, La and combination thereof. The mixture is shaped and to form a porous green shape which is heated under an atmosphere having a fluorine containing gas to a temperature sufficient to form a mullite composition comprised substantially of acicular mullite grains that are essentially chemically bound.

摘要: This invention addresses methods and compositions for providing alkyl diphenyl oxide sulfonic acid blends at useful viscosities for use in surfactants such as DOWFAX-containing surfactants. The low viscosity alkyl diphenyl oxide sulfonic acid blend is made by admixing a fatty acid having a carboxylic chain length between 1 and 12 (e.g., formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butanoic acid, pentanoic acid, valeric acid, hexanoic acid, heptanoic acid, octanoic acid, nonanoic acid, decanoic acid, undecanoic acid, or dodecanoic acid into an alkyl diphenyl oxide sulfonic acid reaction product to provide between about 5 weight percentage and about 50 weight percentage of fatty acid in the admixture.

摘要: A magnetoresistive (MR) read transducer and method of fabricating same. A soft magnetic layer and an MR layer extend over a central active region and passive end regions of the transducer. A nonmagnetic spacer layer separates the soft magnetic film layer and MR layer and extends over the central active region and at least part of both passive end regions. An antiferromagnetic layer directly contacts the MR layer only in the end regions and produces an exchange bias field between the antiferromagnetic layer and the MR layer that is oriented at a preselected acute angle to the longitudinal direction of the transducer. This results in the MR layer being oriented at the preselected acute angle and the soft magnetic film layer in the passive end regions being transversely oriented by magnetostatic coupling to the MR layer. To fabricate the transducer, the antiferromagnetic layer is annealed in an external field above the Neel temperature to produce the canted exchange bias field. As a result of the canting, the magnetic moments of the central active region and the passive end regions are matched during a read operation.

摘要: In a cellular communication system (40) a handoff candidate list is generated for a source sector (51) by eliminating (12) from a list of potential handoff candidates (52-56) any sectors having an interference parameter exceeding a threshold value. The list is further reduced by determining (21) a handoff radius (60) and eliminating any candidate sectors (52-56) that fall outside the handoff radius (60). Candidate sectors (52-56) that do not have overlapping coverage areas are also eliminated (23). In addition, candidate sectors (52-56) having a relative angle of sight to the source sector (51) that exceeds a maximum angle are also eliminated (24). Finally, the list is reduced (15) to a preset number of candidates dependent upon the interference parameter.
