Abstract:
The present invention comprises a blend of polyester and a partially aromatic polyamide with an ionic compatibilizer and a cobalt salt. This blend can be processed into a container that has both active and passive oxygen barrier and carbon dioxide barrier properties at an improved color and clarity than containers known in the art. The partially aromatic polyamide is preferably meta-xylylene adipamide. The ionic compatibilizer is preferably 5-sodiumsulfoisophthalic acid or 5-zincsulfoisophthalic acid, or their dialkyl esters such as the dimethyl ester (SIM) and glycol ester (SIPEG). The cobalt salt is selected form the class of cobalt acetate, cobalt carbonate, cobalt chloride, cobalt hydroxide, cobalt naphthenate, cobalt oleate, cobalt linoleate, cobalt octoate, cobalt stearate, cobalt nitrate, cobalt phosphate, cobalt sulfate, cobalt (ethylene glycolate), or mixtures of two or more of these. The partially aromatic polyamide is present in a range from about 1 to about 10 wt. % of said composition. The ionic compatibilizer is present in a range from about 0.1 to about 2.0 mol-% of said composition. The cobalt salt is present in a range from about 20 to about 500 ppm of said composition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a woven polyester fabric for use in airbags. The present invention includes a woven fabric using a polyester filament yarn, wherein the polyester filament yarn has a tenacity of about 65 cN/tex or greater and an Instantaneous Thermal Creep (ITC) at 100° C. of about 0.5% or less. Additional embodiments of the present invention include an airbag made from the woven polyester fabric. Woven fabrics of the present invention can reduce the extent of seam combing during a hot module deployment of an airbag.
Abstract:
Bottles, containers and other articles are formed from polypropylene compositions that include a reheating agent, such as antimony, carbon black, graphite, titanium, copper, manganese, iron, tungsten, graphite, infra-red absorbing dyes or other infra-red absorbing material. The reheating time for the polypropylene composition is shortened for injection stretch blow molding or thermoforming, and the polypropylene granule composition with reheating agent has an L* value of at least 80% of the L* value for a polypropylene granule control without added reheating agents as measured by the Gardner color test. The reheating agent may be incorporated into the polypropylene composition by in situ chemical reduction of a metal compound, such as antimony triglycolate, with a reducing agent, such as hypophosphorous acid. In addition, the polypropylene composition with reheating agent may be derived from a polypropylene masterbatch with high concentrations of reheating agent.
Abstract:
A method of producing a multicolored textured carpet comprises blending a polyamide polymer and a color pigment to form a melt blend, extrusion spinning the melt blend to form pigmented polyamide yarns, tufting (1) the pigmented polyamide yarns and (2) white dyeable polyamide yarns into a carpet, and overdyeing the carpet with an amount of acid dye sufficient to produce the multicolored textured carpet. The color pigment and the acid dye are selected to provide desired multicolored effect in the carpet. The multicolored textured carpet having deeper color and dye light fastness is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to stain-resist compositions, and particularly, but not by way of limitation, to fibers and textiles treated with stain-resist compositions.
Abstract:
A method of winding bulked continuous filament yarn is disclosed, which enables superior yarn package formation, including higher density packages with excellent shape and yarn takeoff characteristics. The method uses unique helix angles and winding profiles in a non-adjacent and adjacent yarn pattern, achieved by a unique winding control strategy that constantly monitors spindle speed, desired wind ratio, traverse cam speed, and surface speed.
Abstract:
Articles comprising multiple layers are included. The multiple layer articles may include fabrics, foams, films, fiber in combination with a polyolefin composition such as a film, powder, or nonwoven.
Abstract:
The invention provides a polyester bicomponent core spun yarn comprising a sheath of at least one hard fiber and having an English cotton count of from about 5 to about 60 and a core of bicomponent polyester filament. The invention further includes a fabric substantially free of grin-through of the bicomponent polyester filament.
