摘要: The present invention provides a method for processing a green body comprising a powder mixture in which a metal powder and a space filler assume respective positions, comprising applying a material that comprises aspherical metallic particles to at least one surface of the green body, thereby forming a coating on the green body. The present invention also provides implants that are produced in accordance with such method.

摘要: The present invention concerns articles having an outer surface that bears at least two layers of metal particles, wherein the at least two layers comprise an outermost layer and an intermediate layer; the outermost layer consisting essentially of aspherical metallic particles having a mean particle size of 50 to 500 microns; and the intermediate layer consisting essentially of substantially spherical metallic particles having a mean particle size of from 50 to 500 microns. In some embodiments, the outer surface has a volume porosity of between about 20% to about 80%.

摘要: A surface coating for a medical instrument includes an interference filter having at least one dielectric layer and at least one metallic layer arranged one above another. At least one of the at least one metallic layer and the at least one dielectric layer is adapted to be structurally altered by action of a corrosive environment on the surface coating such that the surface coating is convertible from a first state to a second state. In the first state, the surface coating has a first spectral reflectivity. In the second state, the surface coating has a second spectral reflectivity that is different from the first spectral reflectivity.

摘要: Methods for forming bone implants for the repair of the ends of bones at orthopedic joints, which implants have a Young's modulus close to that of human cortical bone. Substrates of dense isotropic graphite are coated overall with hard, microporous, isotropic pyrocarbon of specific character such that it can be polished to serve as an articular surface and can also securely receive an anchoring first metal layer through PVD. The first layer has a character such that, by thermal spraying a second biocompatible metal layer thereupon, fusion occurs and thereby anchors an outermost layer that is formed with a network of randomly interconnected pores and a surface character of peaks and valleys designed to promote enhanced appositional growth of cortical bone at the interface therewith.

摘要: The present invention provides a biomedical implant material comprising a substrate for biomedical implant made of a ceramic material, a first coating layer formed on the surface of said substrate by low-thermal impact coating process, and a second coating layer formed on said first coating layer via a metallic layer formed by thermal spraying process, and a method of producing the same. According to the biomedical implant material, it is made possible to prevent cracks from occurring in the ceramic substrate, and to secure sufficient bonding strength between the thermal-sprayed layer of titanium or the like onto the ceramic substrate.

摘要: A vertebral body spacer of the present invention is used by being inserted between a vertebral body and a vertebral body (intervertebral space). The vertebral body spacer has a block body constituted of titanium or a titanium alloy as a main component thereof, and provided with a pair of contact surfaces to be made contact with the vertebral body and the vertebral body. The block body includes dense sheets having a dense part on at least a surface thereof and porous sheets having a porous part on at least a surface thereof. The porous part has a larger porosity than a porosity of the dense part. Each of the porous sheets is sandwiched between the pair of dense sheets. According to the present invention, it is possible to maintain an appropriate size between the vertebral bodies (intervertebral space).

摘要: This invention solves the above identified limitation by providing a prosthetic implant having a porous surface layer metallurgically bonded to the implant body, wherein a barrier film of metal is positioned between a portion of the porous surface layer and the implant body at areas of stress. By preventing bonding and thereby the formation of notches at strategic locations about the implant, the overall fatigue strength of the implant may be increased. In the preferred embodiment, the film of metal is formed from molybdenum which has a higher melting temperature than titanium which is commonly used for porous layers and the implant body. By preventing notches at strategically significant areas about the implant, designers of prosthetic implants are less limited in the amount or location of the porous surface layer to be metallurgically bonded to the implant.

摘要: A medical implant has a microscopically rough outer coating that serves to bond the implant to animal tissue. The coating is applied to the implant by physical vapor deposition. The coating preferable is applied via a generally oblique coating flux or a low energy coating flux. In some embodiments, the coating has pores. The pores can contain a drug, which can diffuse over a period of time. The coating may be partially nonporous to protect the implant from corrosion. The coating can have an outer porous layer that can bond with animal tissue easily.

摘要: A vertebral body spacer of the present invention is used by being inserted between a vertebral body and a vertebral body (intervertebral space). The vertebral body spacer has a block body constituted of titanium or a titanium alloy as a main component thereof, and provided with a pair of contact surfaces to be made contact with the vertebral body and the vertebral body. The block body includes needle parts formed into a needle shape having both end portions and a porous part having through holes passing through the porous part in a thickness direction thereof, and a porosity of at least a surface of the porous part is larger than a porosity of each of the needle parts. The needle parts are inserted into the through holes so that the both end portions are projected from the contact surfaces.
