摘要： An inner syntactic foam insulator and an outer protective cover are co-extruded around a length of pipe. The protective cover is then rapidly solidified to retain the syntactic foam insulator in a desired shape about the length of pipe. The protective cover is preferably a thermoplastic or a thermosetting material. One technique for rapidly solidifying the thermoplastic protective cover is to bring the protective cover into contact with a liquid coolant (e.g., water). A thermosetting protective cover is rapidly solidified by heating the cover. According to another aspect of the invention, an inner syntactic foam insulator and an outer protective cover are co-extruded to provide an apparatus comprising the inner syntactic foam insulator encased by the outer protective cover. Advantageously, rapidly solidifying the protective layer provides a hard outer layer that protects the syntactic foam insulator as the insulator cures.

Thermoplastic resin is extruded through a plurality of annular dies to form a plurality of molten plastic tubes. The tubes are cooled and solidified and sent through a plurality of pinch rollers to stretch the tubes simultaneously in a machine and transverse direction, creating a plurality of tubular films. The films are cooled and heated, and then relaxed simultaneously in a machine and transverse direction. Winding rollers then wind up the finished tubular films.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method of forming a preform from a material having a first edge and a second edge utilizing a mandrel. The method comprises the step of extruding the material through an extruder to form an extrudate. The first edge of the extrudate has a configuration complementary to a configuration of the second edge of the extrudate. The method also includes wrapping the material around the mandrel by abutting the first edge and the second edge to form a spiral joint.The invention uses a manufacturing apparatus comprising a multi-screw extruder having at least three intermeshing screws for forming the extrudate. The mandrel receives the extrudate and a pressure-applying device adjacent to the mandrel engages the extrudate and applies pressure to the spiral joint to create a smooth exterior surface of the extrudate and to define the preform.

摘要： Apparatus for vulcanising and corrugating rubber tubing includes a mold with a corrugated inner surface. The mold is heated by electrical resistance heating elements. A length of uncured straight tubing is placed in the mold and its external surface is forced into contact with the corrugated mold surface by the combination of a positive gas pressure within the tubing and a negative gas pressure outside the tubing. The tubing is maintained in the heated mold for long enough for it to be vulcanised and take the internal shape of the mold.

摘要： An apparatus and method for stiffening an wet extruded ceramic body for improved handling prior to drying and firing. The ceramic body is formed from a plastically deformable material including inorganic raw materials, and organics, such as a binder having a thermal gel point. As the ceramic body log exits the extruder die it is passed through a microwave energy field to be heated to above the gelling point of the organic binder. The ceramic body then stiffens and can be easily handled without deformation.

摘要： A method for forming tubular solid oxide cells is described. The methods include co-extrusion of an electrode precursor and a sacrificial material to form a multi-layered precursor followed by phase inversion and sintering to remove the sacrificial layer and form an electrode substrate for use in a tubular solid oxide cell. Upon phase inversion and sintering of the precursor, a micro-channel array can be generated in the electrode that is generally perpendicular to the tube surface. The open pored micro-scale geometry of the porous electrode substrate can significantly reduce resistance for fuel/gas transport and increase effective surface area for electrochemical reactions.
