    摘要: A secondary containment pipe system disposed around a primary pipe system and comprising a joint that is divided along a central parting plane and has laterally projecting flanges that form internal passages for adhesive sealing cement, that is injected through ports while the joint is clamped together around secondary containment pipes. The joint has pipe sockets that have internal grooves that also are filled with injected cement, thus forming a continuous, uninterrupted seal around the interior of the joint, and also has spillover grooves and wells for minimizing leakage, and lateral aligning surfaces. The clamping means are C-shaped clips that can be left in place indefinitely. The secondary containment pipes also are divided, being formed by elongated pipe elements fitted together around the primary pipes and having snap-latching coupling means along their abutting edges. One embodiment has internal reinforcing flaps that extend across the abutting edges and define internal sealing passages along the coupling means to be filled with injected adhesive cement through external ports, and also has means along the free edges for holding the flaps in place. A second pipe embodiment has tongue-and-groove couplings along thickened edges, and internal passages along the couplings in the form of enlarged coupling grooves, and an external reinforcing strip is provided for optional use in pressurized systems.

    摘要: A joint configuration for joining two articles of thermoplastic material by thermal bonding using an electrical heating element, wherein a female fitting having a portion with an enlarged diameter receives the end of an inserted pipe on two raised portions constituting lands on the inner diameter of the fitting, and the central annular recess between the two lands receives and positions the electrical heating element which fuses the thermoplastic material. The two lands, each compressed against the outside of the inserted pipe by an external clamp, confine and retain the fused thermoplastic material within the central annular recess to effect an increased internal pressure which promotes the formation of an extensive, continuous, and sound bond between the fitting and the inserted pipe.

    摘要: Web end portions are spliced together with plastic rivets formed from a soft pliable plastic. To form a splice, a patch of thermoplastic having the property of expanding when subjected to heat and pressure such as chlorinated polyethylene material, is placed on a splicing base. A pair of web end portions to be spliced together are placed in abutting or overlapped relation on the platic material to form a web-patch sandwich. A platen having an opening in register with the patch is brought into pressure engagement with the web-patch sandwich to form a pressurized plastic bubble extending into the opening. A heated pin of substantially the same configuration as the opening is moved therethrough for confining the opening and inserting a necked down head at the end thereof into the plastic in the bubble. The combination of heat, pressure and gas formation within the thermoplastic causes the visco-elastic plastic to expand through the opening in the web formed by the pinhead to fill the confined opening and form a plastic rivet head on the surface of the web opposite the patch.
