Abstract: A polarizing plate includes: a polarizer; a pattern layer on one surface of the polarizer, the pattern layer including a first refractive index layer having at least one engraved pattern and a second refractive index layer having a filling pattern filling at least a portion of the engraved pattern, the first refractive index layer having a higher refractive index than the second refractive index layer; and a first protective layer. The polarizing plate has a structure in which the polarizer, the second refractive index layer, the first refractive index layer and the first protective layer are sequentially stacked in that order, or in which the polarizer, the first protective layer, the second refractive index layer and the first refractive index layer are sequentially stacked in that order. The first protective layer includes a base film including at least one resin of triacetylcellulose, polyethylene terephthalate, cyclic olefin polymer, and acrylic resins.

Abstract: An antireflection plate has a structure in which a hard coat layer, an antireflective layer having a low refractive index layer, a protective layer, and an overcoat layer are laminated in this order on a transparent resin substrate. The low refractive index layer is a cured body of a curable composition containing 50 to 200 parts by mass of (B-2) hollow silica fine particles, and the low refractive index layer has a refractive index of 1.20 to 1.45. The protective layer is a cured body of a curable composition containing 7.5 to 35 parts by mass of (B-3) spherical silica fine particles, and the protective layer has a thickness of 10 to 15 nm and a refractive index of 1.45 to 1.50. The overcoat layer includes a polymer of a fluorine-containing silicon compound.

Such cellulose esters may be suitable for use in films, such as +A optical films, and/or +C optical films. Optical films prepared employing such cellulose esters have a variety of commercial applications, such as, for example, as compensation films in liquid crystal displays and/or waveplates in creating circular polarized light used in 3-D technology.

Abstract: The present, invention provides a liquid crystal display device that can exhibit excellent retardation stability against heat and that can prevent reduction in contrast ratio due to scattering even when the liquid crystal display device includes a retardation layer formed by polymerization of a reactive monomer, and a method for producing a liquid crystal display device suitable for production of the liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes paired substrates and a liquid crystal layer provided between the paired substrates. At least one of the paired substrates includes a retardation layer formed from a polymer of at least one type of monomer. The at least one type of monomer includes a photo-aligning monomer that is to be aligned by polarized light.
