Abstract:
The cigar and cigarette burn resistant gaming cloth table includes a layer of fire retardant treated knit fabric laminated to a thin sheet of aluminum and wherein the other side of the aluminum sheet is laminated to a layer of synthetic fabric (preferably, a non-woven fabric). Preferably, the top layer knit fabric is laminated to the aluminum via a latex adhesive. The lower non-woven fabric is (a) laminated to the aluminum sheet via latex adhesive, (b) needle punch mounted to the aluminum, or (c) the aluminum is sprayed onto one or the other of the cloth layers. Preferably, the knit layer, prior to being laminated to the thin sheet of aluminum, is treated with a fire retardant and an oil, alcohol and water repellant and stain resistant chemical composition (preferably, a phosphorus fluorocarbon).
Abstract:
At least one section of a jib of a crane, such as a mobile crane, includes a composite cross-section incorporating a layer of steel covered by one or more fiber composite layers. In a preferred embodiment, more than one fiber composite layer is included and the respective fiber layers are disposed in a criss-cross manner with respect to each other to enhance the overall strength of the telescopic part. Also, in a preferred embodiment the steel layer of the composite is on the interior of the telescopic part for minimizing thermal stresses due to temperature changes caused by sun loads. In another preferred embodiment, the composite fiber layers are disposed only in the zone of the cross-section of the telescopic part, which is subjected to tensile forces during use.
Abstract:
A structural article comprises a substrate having an ionic charge coated on one side with a coating having essentially the same ionic charge and covered on the other side with a water vapor impermeable material selected from the roof consisting essentially of metal foils and preformed plastic films. The coating consists essentially of a filler material and a binder material and the binder material bonds the filler material together and to the substrate. The water vapor impermeable material is attached to the coated substrate with an adhesive. In additional embodiments, the substrate is coated on both sides with a coating having essentially the same ionic charge and the article so coated is then covered on one or both sides with the water vapor impermeable material.
Abstract:
A flexible reflective insulating structure includes a layer of flexible fiber-based material, and a flexible metallic layer having a first surface of emissivity less than 0.1. The metallic layer is attached to the layer of fiber-based material with its first surface facing towards the layer of fiber-based material. The fiber-based material is preferably attached to the metallic layer in a manner such that the emissivity of at least about 85% of the first surface, and preferably at least about 95% and most preferably at least about 97% is substantially unaffected.
Abstract:
A filler material for the exterior surface of a high voltage coil having Roebeled strands is described. The filler material comprises an epoxy resin impregnated felt which is wrapped in a low resistance conductive tape. The conductive tape reduces potential gradients across the filler material, thereby reducing the occurrence of unwanted electrical discharges in the filler voids.
Abstract:
A ceramic metal-reinforced metal-based composite material produced by impregnating, under pressure, a semi-molten alloy having a solid phase and a liquid phase coexistent with each other into a preliminarily molded body composed of ceramic whiskers or ceramic particles.
Abstract:
The conductive fabric is fabricated by preparing a base fibrous fabric substrate having the form of a woven, non-woven, or mesh sheet, forming a first layer formed on the fibrous fabric substrate in accordance with an electroless plating process, the first layer being made of copper, and forming a second layer as an externally exposed layer, on the first layer continuously, the second layer being made of gold or platinum.
Abstract:
A composite-based rim and methods for manufacturing such a rim are provided. The rim includes multiple fiber-based, co-mingled layers, wherein the strength and/or stiffness of the layers increases from the innermost layer of the rim to the outermost layer of the rim, but where the radial stress and strain generated in the rim decreases from the innermost layer to the outermost layer. Incorporation of this rim into a high stress and strain usage environment, such as a flywheel system, allows the rim to be spun at high speeds in order to generate high levels of kinetic energy while beneficially managing the amount of strain and radial stresses generated within the rim, and, in turn, minimizing or at least controlling the formation and propagation of cracks within the rim.
