A process for treating a tailings stream comprises (a) contacting (1) a gelling agent and (2) an activator with said tailings stream to produce a gel; (b) entrapping solids including sand and clay, and other solid particles with the gel; and (c) allowing the gel to strengthen and solidify to produce a trafficable deposit; wherein the tailings stream comprises water and solids, which solids comprise sand, clay and other solids particles, and wherein 5% by volume to 100% by volume of the solids have a particle size less than 0.05 mm, based on the total volume of the solids. The process may further comprises spreading the gel produced in step (a) or the trafficable deposit produced in step (c) over a surface. The present invention is particularly useful to treat tailings streams produced in processes to extract bitumen from oil sands ores.

Novel, one-part polymer grout compositions are provided comprising a silanated polymer. The inventive grout compositions can thus be water and/or stain resistant to a greater degree than conventional one-part polymer grouts. In some embodiments, the grout compositions may also have enhanced shrinkage and/or crack resistance, as may be provided at least in part by the inclusion of an amount of one or more fiber fillers. As a result of these advantageous properties, the one-part polymer grout compositions provided herein may find applicability in environments previously contraindicated for conventional one-part polymer grout compositions, e.g., in horizontal and/or damp, or even wet, environments, or in combination with certain tile materials, e.g. water absorbing tile materials.

The aqueous gypsum slurry includes calcium sulfate hemihydrate, a silicone oil and a specific catalyst, and exhibits excellent crack resistance and a low total absorptance.

The present invention relates to binding agents for coating compositions which can be used for making foundry molds. The new compositions contain known polymeric titanic acid esters which are treated with chelating agents. The preferred chelating agents are beta-dioxo compounds. The chelating agents are contained in the binding agent in amounts between 0.2 and 1 gram molecule per gram atom of titanium. The new binding agents can be prepared in a simple manner from titanic acid esters, water and the chelating agent, the amount of water being selected in accordance with the degree of condensation desired in the polymeric titanic acid ester.
