Abstract:
Novel products suitable for use as detergents in lubricant compositions are provided. Such products include the reaction products of (1) the product of reaction between an alkenylsuccinic acid, ester or anhydride and a hydroxyaromatic compound, (2) the product of reaction between (1) and an amine selected from the group consisting of an alkanepolyol such as an amino alkanediol and a polyalkylenepolyamine; (3) the reaction product of (2) and an aldehyde; (4) the reaction product of (3) with a metal salt capable of forming a stable complex with amines; (5) the reaction product of (2) with a metal salt; and (6) the product of reaction between an alkenylsuccinic acid or anhydride and an alkyl phenyl ether.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions containing a lubricant and a minor amount of a derivative of alkenylsuccinic anhydride are provided. Such derivatives include the reaction product of (1) the product of reaction between an alkenylsuccinic acid, ester or anhydride and a hydroxyaromatic compound; (2) the product of reaction between (1) and an amine selected from the group consisting of an alkanepolyol such as an amino alkanediol and a polyalkylene polyamine; (3) the reaction product of (2) and an aldehyde; (4) the reaction product of (3) with a metal salt capable of forming a stable complex with amines; (5) the reaction product of (2) with a metal salt; and (6) the product of reaction between an alkenylsuccinic acid or anhydride and an alkyl phenyl ether.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology relates to ashless compounds exhibiting neutral pH and having sufficient polarity to act as a dispersant. The disclosed technology additionally relates to the use of the ashless compounds in engine lubricants as dispersants for preventing engine deposit without degrading seals or increasing (i.e. contributing to) corrosion.
Abstract:
Provided are polyalkoxylates that are prepared by alkoxylating polytetrahydrofurane with butylene oxide for use in lubricant compositions and/or for reducing friction in a driveline.
Abstract:
Fuel or lubricant additives based on reaction products of an ethylenically unsaturated poly-1-alkene derived from one or more 1-alkenes of 3 to 24 carbon atoms and from 0 to 50% by weight of ethene, processes for their preparation and fuel or lubricant compositions containing these additives are described.
Abstract:
A multi-functional composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants. The composition includes an amination product of a hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent and a mixture containing an aliphatic polyamine and an aromatic polyamine. The molar ratio of aliphatic polyamine to aromatic polyamine in the mixture ranges from about 10:0.1 to about 0.1:10. The amination product contains at least about 0.1 molar equivalent of the polyamine mixture to 1 molar equivalent of the hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent.
Abstract:
Monoalkylated benzofuran adducts provide high temperature stable lubricant fluids having not only excellent thermal stability, but good low-temperature properties and excellent additive solubility as well.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel polymers which are adducts of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, wherein the novel polymers are produced by contacting cyclic carbonyl monomers with an unsaturated hydrocarbon to form novel cyclic carbonyl polymers having an Mn of about 500 to about 10.sup.7.
Abstract:
The invention relates to novel compositions comprising ene and free radical adducts of unsaturated and saturated hydrocarbons, and acyclic and cyclic vicinal polycarbonyl compounds such as diethyl ketomalonate and indantrione. The adducts are reacted with nucleophiles such as amines, electrophiles such as anhydrides and esters, and metal ions. Post-products are obtained via reaction of said products with capping reagents such as boric acid. Compositions containing said adducts, products and post-products include oleaginous substances such as fuels and lube oils.
