    摘要: A process for forming a chromium/silica/phosphate protective conversion coating on a metal surface is improved by pretreating the surface with a composition comprising at least one of (i) H.sub.2 TiF.sub.6, (ii) H.sub.2 SiF.sub.6, and (iii) a derivative of poly{alkenylphenol} before applying the conversion coating. The process of the invention results in a protective base coating having superior adhesion to paint at a relatively high coating weight which is desirable for improved corrosion resistance. This process is especially useful in forming such protective conversion coatings on continuous cast aluminum surfaces.

    摘要: A coating preparation for pretreating metals comprises an acrylic acid or a derivative thereof and barium hydroxide in a proportion by weight of 1:0.08-0.30, as well as chromium compounds, the remainder being conventional additives and water. The amount of acrylic acid or derivative thereof is preferably 2-6% by weight. The amount of chromic acid in the chromium compounds in the coating preparation depends on the type of the metal substrate to be treated. Such a preparation combines, in a single preparation, the desired properties for conversion of the metal and adhesion, which means that instead of 2 separate layers, 1 layer is sufficient.

    摘要: A black, no-rinse conversion coating on metal surfaces is provided. The treatment of a metal such as aluminum or aluminum alloys with a composition of hexavalent chromium, a modified styrene acrylic resin, carbon black thickeners, surfactants and coalescents results in a black no-rinse conversion coating. The black coating provides corrosion resistance and is resistant to gasoline, hot oil and ethylene glycol. The coating solution is particularly effective on complex shapes having closely spaced parts such as automotive radiators or condensers.

    摘要: The invention involves a nonrinse type hydrophilic surface-treating process capable of imparting hydrophilicity to the surface of a metal material, e.g., aluminum, and, at the same time, forming thereon a coating excelling in resistance to corrosion. In the process there is applied an aqueous solution which contains selected amounts of Cr ions (III, VI), F.sup.-, SiO.sub.2 and a water-soluble acrylic acid polymer, and optionally PO.sub.4.sup.-3, if necessary. An aluminum article treated by this process is suitable for the fins of a heat exchanger.
