Abstract:
A system and method for positioning a pill to be ingested by a user in a field of view of an image acquisition camera. The method includes the steps of determining a desired location of the mouth of a user in a field of view of an image acquisition camera, determining a current position of a pill to be ingested by the user in the field of view of the image acquisition apparatus, and indicating on a display a movement to be made by the user to move the pill towards mouth of the user.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a composite polymer/nanoporous film system and methods of fabrication of tunable nanoporous coatings on flexible polymer substrates. The porosity of the nanoporous film can be tuned during fabrication to a desired value by adjusting the deposition conditions. Experiments show that SiO2 coatings with tunable porosity fabricated by oblique-angle electron beam deposition can be deposited on polymer substrates. These conformable coatings have many applications, including in the field of optics where the ability to fabricate tunable refractive index coatings on a variety of materials and shapes is of great importance.

Abstract:
"Green", ceramic tapes intended as building blocks for making complex, fully ceramic components and devices for electronic-, lab-on-chip-, and sensing applications, the manufacture of which comprises in sequence: I. mixing of a ceramic "green" paste, II. homogenisation of a ceramic "green" paste, III. dimensioning and optionally structuring the ceramic "green" paste, IV. drying of the dimensioned and structured ceramic paste, in which:. step iii) is performed in a combination of an extruder and a calender, the extruder being provided with a circular extrusion die,. splitting and unfolding the extruded tube to a flat, continuous tape strip,. using methylcellulose or derivatives thereof as binder, and. an additional step chosen among cutting and punching the thus dimensioned and optionally structured "green" paste, thereby making thick, "green" tapes. A method for its manufacture is also contemplated.
Abstract:
In certain examples, a porous silica-based matrix may be formed. In an exemplary embodiment, using sol gel methods, a coating solution of or including metal alkoxides such as TEOS and carbon-based structures such as fullerene structures may be used to form a layer(s) of or including silica and fullerene compounds in a solid matrix on (directly or indirectly) a glass substrate. The coated article may be heat treated (e.g., thermally tempered), which may cause the carbon-based fullerene structures to combust, resulting in a porous silica-based matrix. The layer of the porous silica-based matrix may be used as a broadband anti-reflective coating.
Abstract:
Described herein are coated glass or glass-ceramic articles having improved reflection resistance. Further described are methods of making and using the improved articles. The coated articles generally include a glass or glass-ceramic substrate and a nanoporous Si- containing coating disposed thereon. The nanoporous Si-containing coating is not a free-standing adhesive film, but a coating that is fonned on or over the glass or glass-ceramic substrate.
Abstract:
A method of forming a non-metallic coating on a metallic substrate involves the steps of positioning the metallic substrate in an electrolysis chamber and applying a sequence of voltage pulses of alternating polarity to electrically bias the substrate with respect to an electrode. Positive voltage pulses anodically bias the substrate with respect to the electrode and negative voltage pulses cathodically bias the substrate with respect to the electrode. The amplitude of the positive voltage pulses is potentiostatically controlled, wheras the amplitude of the negative voltage pulses is galvanostatically controlled.
Abstract:
An insulated metal substrate (IMS) for supporting a device comprises a metallic substrate having a ceramic coating formed at least in part by oxidation of a portion of the surface of the metallic substrate. The ceramic coating has a dielectric strength of greater than 50 KV mm -1 and a thermal conductivity of greater than 5 Wm -1 K -1 .

Abstract:
An article includes a substrate and an environmental barrier coating overlying the substrate. The environmental barrier coating includes a first dense layer, an intermediate layer overlying the first dense layer, and a second dense layer overlying the intermediate layer. The first dense layer includes at least one of a first rare earth silicate or barium strontium aluminosilicate and the second dense layer includes at least one of a second rare earth silicate or barium strontium aluminosilicate. Additionally, the intermediate layer includes at least one of a porous microstructure, a lamellar microstructure, or an absorptive material.
