摘要: A method for bonding two fiber composite components with each other to form a fiber composite structure includes integrating conductive fibers underneath a bonding surface of at least one of the two fiber composite components, each conductive fiber comprising a carbon fiber coated with an electrically insulating coating, the conductive fibers running along the bonding surface and protruding at least at their ends from the respective fiber composite component; arranging the two fiber composite components against each other at their respective bonding surfaces; passing an electric current through the conductive fibers by electrically contacting the conductive fibers at their protruding ends so that the respective fiber composite component is heated at the bonding surface to a curing temperature; and joining the two fiber composite components with each other at their bonding surfaces via secondary bonding, co-bonding and/or co-curing at the curing temperature, thereby forming the fiber composite structure.

摘要: A unique composite material impregnated with a heat curable resin comprising a layer of conductive fibers and one or more resin carrying layers is utilized to reinforce utility poles by wrapping the material around a portion of the utility pole and causing a current to flow through the conductive fibers to resistively heat the material to the resin. The composite material can also be incorporated into molds to produce cured composite parts. The composite material is also used in the construction of large parts without the need for huge, expensive molds. The conductive fibers in composite parts are oriented in a manner to ensure that the entire part is thoroughly heated during the curing process.

摘要: An adjustable shim comprises a stack of plies comprising plastics material reinforced with a three-dimensional fibre layer, the plastics material being flowable under compressive force prior to cure for adjusting the thickness of the shim. The shim may be used to fill a void between two structural components joined together. Also, a method of filling a void between two structural components using the shim. The shim is easy to handle, can easily be laid up to a variety of thicknesses, and is quick to cure (depending on the plastics material used). The three-dimensional fibre layers make the shim highly compressible prior to cure, and provide significant reinforcement to the plastics material of the plies to support compressive stresses in the shim post cure.

摘要: Methods of facilitating the adhesive bonding of various components with variable frequency microwave energy are disclosed. The time required to cure a polymeric adhesive is decreased by placing components to be bonded via the adhesive in a microwave heating apparatus having a multimode cavity and irradiated with microwaves of varying frequencies. Methods of uniformly heating various articles having conductive fibers disposed therein are provided. Microwave energy may be selectively oriented to enter an edge portion of an article having conductive fibers therein. An edge portion of an article having conductive fibers therein may be selectively shielded from microwave energy.

摘要: A method for resistance welding of two fiber-composite components to give a fiber-composite structure includes arranging conductive fibers within a jointing region of the two fiber-composite components, where each conductive fiber includes a carbon fiber with an electrically insulating coating. An electric current is passed through the conductive fibers to heat the jointing region to a welding temperature and melt the fiber-composite components in the jointing region. The jointing region is hardened in a manner that bonds the two fiber-composite components by way of the jointing region to give the fiber-composite structure.
