Abstract: Fabrication of microelectronic devices is accomplished using a substrate having a recessed pattern. In one approach, a master form is used to replicate a substrate having a pit pattern. In another approach, the substrate is produced by etching. A series of stacked layers having desired electrical characteristics is applied to the substrate and planarized in a manner that creates electrical devices and connections therebetween. The microelectronic devices can include a series of row and columns and are used to store data at their intersection.

Abstract: An apparatus for high speed attachment of a cord to a piece of receiving material is characterized by one or more pins which engage the cord, pierce the receiving material and draw the cord through the receiving material from the first side to a second side thereof so that open loops are formed in the cord on the second side of the receiving material. The pins may be implemented as a push pin and a spreader pin pair movably mounted relative to each other and each of which is adapted to grasp the cord and penetrate the receiving material. The loop(s) are formed as the push pin and spreader pin move relative to each other. The apparatus further comprises a floating shuttle, not attached to the frame of the apparatus but supported by a series of gear assemblies. The pins move relative to the shuttle in a single direction causing the shuttle to engage an end portion of the cord, drawing the cord through the open loops so as to complete the lacing stitch of the cord through the receiving material. The apparatus operates without any significant reciprocating motion, resulting in a process that can attach a cord to a piece of receiving material at extremely high speeds. The floating shuttle may be applied in any situation where a strand of material such as a cord, thread, wire, or fiber is to be attached to a receiving piece of material.

Abstract: The present invention is a method for forming a vertically oriented element having a narrower area near its center away from either end. The present invention will find applicability in other memory cell structures. The element will have a narrow portion towards its center such that current density will be higher away from the ends of the element. In this way, the heating will occur away from the ends of the storage element. Heating in a phase-change or resistive change element leads to end of life conditions, including the condition whereby contaminants from the end point contacts are enabled to migrate away from the end point and into the storage element thereby contaminating the storage element material and reducing its ability to be programmed, erased and/or read back. By keeping the greatest heating towards the center of the element where it is surrounded by more of the same material and away from the ends of the element where end point contact material can be heated and potentially activated, the lifetime of the element will be increased.

Abstract: In one aspect, an electronic memory array includes overlapping, generally parallel sets of conductors, and includes storage elements near each point of overlap. One set of conductors has a non-negligible resistance. An address path for each storage element traverses a portion of one each of the first and second sets of conductors and a selectable resistance element. All storage element address paths have substantially equivalent voltage drops across the corresponding storage elements.

Abstract: A wireless communication system for use in a process environment uses mesh and possibly a combination of mesh and point-to-point communications to produce a wireless communication network that can be easily set up, configured, changed and monitored, thereby making a wireless communication network that is less expensive, and more robust and reliable. The wireless communication system allows virtual communication paths to be established and used within the process control system in a manner that is independent of the manner in which the wireless signals are sent between different wireless transmitting and receiving devices within the process plant. Still further, communication analysis tools are provided to enable a user or operator to view the operation of the wireless communication network to thereby analyze the ongoing operation of the wireless communications within the wireless communication network.
