Abstract:
Methods and systems (10, 54, 72) are provided for administering phototherapy to an injured tissue in a living subject by delivering visible or infrared biostimulatory energy to bone marrow at a dose sufficient to cause mesenchymal stem cells to appear in the injured tissue. The energy may be coherent light and can be administered transcutaneously, subcutaneously, or via an intramedullary probe (74). The technique is useful for treating many types of tissue injury, including ischemic cardiac and renal conditions.
Abstract:
Data clustering is provided according to a dynamical framework based on quantum mechanical time evolution of states corresponding to data points. To expedite computations, we can approximate the time-dependent Hamiltonian formalism by a truncated calculation within a set of Gaussian wave-functions (coherent states) centered around the original points. This allows for analytic evaluation of the time evolution of all such states, opening up the possibility of exploration of relationships among data-points through observation of varying dynamical-distances among points and convergence of points into clusters. This formalism may be further supplemented by preprocessing, such as dimensional reduction through singular value decomposition and/or feature filtering.
Abstract:
Polymeric systems useful for theranostic applications are disclosed. The polymeric systems comprise a fluorescent or fluorogenic moiety and a therapeutically active agent, each attached to the same or different polymeric moiety. The polymeric systems are designed such that a fluorescent signal is generated in response to a chemical event, preferably upon contacting an analyte (e.g., an enzyme) that is over-expressed in a diseased tissue or organ. Probes useful for inclusion in such polymeric systems, processes of preparing such probes and the polymeric systems, and uses thereof in diagnostic and/or theranostic applications are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I): and pharmacologically acceptable salts and pro-drugs thereof, wherein the variables are as defined in the specification, are potassium ion channel modulators, making them particularly useful in treating and preventing conditions such as pain, lower urinary tract disorders and the like.
Abstract:
A rotation sensing device is presented. The device comprises: a proof mass arrangement comprising at least one pair of proof masses spaced-apart from one another along a first axis; a suspension assembly comprising flexible suspension beams having a main axis deformable between their substantially straight and curved states, the suspension assembly coupling the proof masses to an anchor assembly, while allowing a drive-mode oscillatory movement of the proof masses at least along a second axis substantially perpendicular to the main axis of the beams; and an actuation mechanism configured and operable to cause the drive-mode oscillatory movement of the proof masses in opposite directions along said second axis, thereby generating a sense-mode oscillatory movement of the proof masses during the rotation of the device about at least one rotation axis perpendicular to said second axis, said sense-mode movement being indicative of a rate of the rotation.
Abstract:
Lactic acid bacterial cultures, cell populations and articles of manufacture comprising same are disclosed for generating ethanol from lignocellulose.
Abstract:
Lactic acid cell cultures for processing lignocellulose are disclosed. The bacterial culture may comprise a biomass composition and a population of lactic acid bacteria which comprises:(i) a first population of lactic acid bacteria which has been genetically modified to express a secreted cellulase; and(ii) a second population of lactic acid bacteria which has been genetically modified to express a secreted xylanase, wherein the ratio of the first population: second population is selected such that the specific activity of cellulase:xylanase in the culture is greater than 4:1 or less than 1:4.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for obtaining a plurality of spectral images of a source object in a snapshot using comprising two-dimensional compressed sensing data cube reconstruction (2D CS-SCR) applied to a dispersed-diffused snapshot image. In some embodiments, the snapshot image is obtained through a RIP diffuser. In some embodiments, a randomizer is used to further randomized the dispersed-diffused snapshot image. The 2D CS-SCR includes applying a 2D framelet transform separately to arrays representing different wavebands of spectral cube data derived from the snapshot image. The application of the 2D framelet transform separately to the arrays representing the different wavebands includes application of direct and inverse 2D framelet transforms to the arrays. In some embodiments, the direct and inverse framelet transforms are included in a split Bregman iteration.
Abstract:
An isolated human cell is disclosed comprising at least one mesenchymal stem cell phenotype and secreting brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), wherein a basal secretion of the BDNF is at least five times greater than a basal secretion of the BDNF in a mesenchymal stem cell. Methods of generating same and uses of same are also disclosed.
