A method for the oxidative coupling of hydrocarbons, such as the oxidative coupling of methane to toluene, includes providing an oxidative catalyst inside a reactor, and carrying out the oxidative coupling reaction under a set of reaction conditions. The oxidative catalyst includes (A) at least one element selected from the group consisting of the Lanthanoid group, Mg, Ca, and the elements of Group 4 of the periodic table (Ti, Zr, and Hf); (B) at least one element selected from the group consisting of the Group 1 elements of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, and the elements of Group 3 (including La and Ac) and Groups 5-15 of the periodic table; (C) at least one element selected from the group consisting of the Group 1 elements of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, and the elements Ca, Sr, and Ba; and (D) oxygen.

A biaxially oriented film includes a PLA and polyolefin (PLA/PO) blend. The film has a haze of 80% or greater as measured by ASTM-D1003 and a 45° gloss of less than 50% as measured by ASTM-D-2457.

A high impact polystyrene (HIPS) is made from styrene monomer and 3 to 20 wt % of an elastomeric component phase including polybutadiene rubber and styrene butadiene copolymer. The HIPS has a 60 degree gloss of 90 or more, a Gardner drop of at least 10 in-lb, and an Izod impact strength of 1.8 ft-lb/in or more. The HIPS can have salami morphology with rubber particle size between 1 and 1.3 microns.

A high melt strength polypropylene is formed using maleated polypropylene and a combination of coupling agents and acid neutralizers. The maleated polypropylene can be formed using multi-functional monomers. The high melt strength polypropylene can be useful for foaming, sheet extrusion thermoforming, extrusion blow molding, extrusion coating, fiber, film, and the like.

Method employing a supported metallocene catalyst composition in the production of an isotactic ethylene propylene co-polymer. The composition comprises a metallocene component supported on a particulate silica support having average particle size of 10-40 microns, a pore volume of 1.3-1.6 ml/g, a surface area of 200-400 m2/g. An alkylalumoxane cocatalyst component is incorporated on the support. The isospecific metallocene is characterized by the formula: B(CpRaRb)(FlR′2)MQn (1) or by the formula: B′(Cp′R′aR′b)(Fl′)M′Q′n′ (2) In the formulas Cp and Cp′ are substituted cyclopentadienyl groups, Fl and Fl′ are fluorenyl groups, and B and B′ are structural bridges. R′ are substituents at the 2 and 7 positions, Ra and R′a are substituents distal to the bridge, and Rb and R′b are proximal to the bridge. M and M′ are transition metals, Q′ is a halogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group; and n′ is an integer of from 0-4.

Methods and systems for the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons include a direct contact condenser to remove compounds from an offgas process stream. The reduction of compounds can decrease duty on the offgas compressor by removing steam and aromatics from the offgas. The dehydrogenation reaction system can be applicable for reactions such as the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to produce styrene, the dehydrogenation of isoamiline to produce isoprene, or the dehydrogenation of n-pentene to produce piperylene.

Petrochemical processes, including reforming processes are described herein. The reforming processes generally include introducing an input stream to a reforming unit having a reforming catalyst disposed therein, wherein the input stream includes a naphtha having an N+2A value of from about 65 to about 85 and contacting the input stream with the reforming catalyst and hydrogen to form an output stream.
