Abstract:
An audience matching network includes local domains that collect information about audience members, including behavioral and characteristics information. A network profile corresponding to information collected in the local domains is provided, and supports the definition of network audience segments. Membership in the network segments is used to accommodate the delivery of content such as advertising to particular audience members.
Abstract:
An expanded television program delivery system is disclosed which allows viewers to select television and audio program choices from a series of menus. Menus are partially stored in a set-top terminal in each subscriber's home. The menus may be reprogrammed by signals sent from a headend or from a central operations center. The system allows for a great number of television signals to be transmitted by using digital compression techniques. An operations center with computer-assisted packaging allows various television, audio and data signals to be combined, compressed and multiplexed into signals transmitted on various channels to a cable headend which distributes the signals to individual set-top terminals. Various types of menus may be used and the menus may incorporate information included within the video/data signal received by the set-top terminal. A remote control unit with icon buttons allows a subscriber to select programs based upon a series of major menus, submenus, and during program menus. Various billing and statistics gathering methods for the program delivery system are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A targeted integrated image is created for delivery to a user. Content of potential interest to the user is determined based on at least one user preference. This determination may be made prior to or during the user's request for an image, such as video content, or while the user is receiving an image, such as a menu or programming guide. An image representing the content of potential interest to the user, such as a barker is selected and combined with another image of interest to the user to form a targeted integrated image for delivery to the user. The user preference may include information representing content viewing habits or content ordering habits of the user. The user preferences may be associated with the identity of the user.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for generating, distributing, and screening commercial content are disclosed. A commercial content generator (CCG) generates commercial content message and obtains from a push proxy agent address resolution server the network routing address of each push proxy agent that is required for distribution of the message to the target mobile subscriber audience. A push proxy agent receives a message containing commercial content and resolves a mobile subscriber identifier for each mobile subscriber who is to receive the commercial content information using subscriber information obtained from a subscriber location register, such as a visitor location register (VLR). The push proxy agent may also negotiate media format characteristics for each member of the target mobile subscriber audience and facilitate delivery of the commercial content to each member of the target mobile subscriber audience.
Abstract:
A system and method is directed to obtaining information from a mobile vehicle within a mobile vehicle communication service. The method provides creating a mobile vehicle contact list based on an information request, determining a time period to transmit the mobile vehicle contact list and the information request, transmitting the mobile vehicle contact list and the information request to the mobile vehicle at the determined time period, and receiving the information from the mobile vehicle, at a specified time, based on the information requested. The system further provides means for creating a vehicle contact list based on the information request, means for determining a time period to transmit the mobile vehicle contact list and the information request, means for transmitting the mobile vehicle contact list and the information request to the mobile vehicle at the determined time period, and means for receiving the information, at a specified time, from the mobile vehicle based on the information requested.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for permitting a data terminal to connect to a broadcast station web site and to receive a broadcast station broadcast in response to selection of a bookmark. Selection of the bookmark results in a tuner on the data terminal being tuned to receive a broadcast while the data terminal substantially simultaneously connects to a web site for the broadcast station. Broadcast frequency information and web site address information for the bookmark may be stored on the data terminal, or such information may be stored remotely, such as on a station id server in communication with the data terminal. The bookmark may be programmed by the user and may represent different broadcast stations according to parameters.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the remote deactivation of at least one decoder for accessing multimedia digital data, which is provided by a service operator. The decoder has a unique identifier (ID) known to the operator. To deactivate a decoder with determined identifier (ID), the operator sends, through a communication network linking the decoder to the operator, a destruction command for destroying all or part of the software embedded in the decoder, this destruction command being addressed to the decoder with determined identifier (ID). The invention also relates to a decoder which comprises an eraser software module suitable for erasing all or part of the software embedded in the decoder when the decoder receives a destruction command which is addressed to it.
Abstract:
An Internet video broadcasting system providing to broadcasters the ability to simultaneously deliver broadcast-quality, multi-media content to large numbers of viewers using the existing Internet infrastructure while retaining control over the exact timing of display of the content to viewers.
Abstract:
A wide area communication system (100,200) employs a method and apparatus for providing a localized information (410) to a communication device (500) located in the wide area communication system (100,200). The wide area communication system (100,200) includes a plurality of local coverage areas (110-112, 219-225) that are each served by one or more broadcast transmission sites (103-108, 203-212). A broadcast transmission site (300) providing communication service to a local coverage area that includes the communication device (500) transmit, during a first pre-allocated time interval and/or together with a first pre-allocated broadcast address, information relating to their local coverage area. During a second time interval and/or together with an individual address (414) of the communication device (500), the same broadcast transmission sites together with other broadcast transmission sites in the wide area communication system (100, 200) transmit an individualized information (418) to the communication device (500).
Abstract:
A receiver is provided for an information system that provides selected information to individual users. A high speed digital program signal is broadcast and contains program data that begins at a reference time and is repeated at set intervals. An index signal that contains the receiver's identifier associated with the reference time and interval information is also broadcast. The receiver monitors the index signal for its identifier. When the receiver detects its identifier, the receiver downloads the time and tuning information. The receiver then uses the time and tuning information to receive, download, and store the user's selected program. In some embodiments a transceiver replaces the receiver to allow the user to make remote program requests.
