Abstract: Described herein is an article comprising (i) bead film comprising a binder resin layer and a plurality of microspheres partially embedded in the binder resin layer such that a portion of the microspheres outwardly protrude a first distance from the surface of the binder resin layer; (ii) a stabilizing layer disposed on the outwardly protruding microspheres opposite the binder resin layer, wherein the stabilizing layer intimately conforms to the protruding microspheres, and wherein the stabilizing layer has a Tg less than 100 C and a storage modulus at 150° C. of at least 1.5 MPa; and (iii) a release agent, wherein (a) the binder resin layer comprises the release agent, (b) the stabilizing layer comprises the release agent, and/or (c) an intermediate layer comprises the release agent, wherein the intermediate layer is disposed between the monolayer of microspheres and the stabilizing layer, with the proviso that when the binder resin layer has a fluorine content along the polymeric backbone greater than 65 wt %, the stabilizing layer comprises a release agent selected from a silicone and a fluoropolymer. Also disclosed herein are methods of making thermoformable bead films.

Abstract: A method of disposing an adhesive composition onto a first surface of a first substrate comprises: a) disposing a photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition onto at least a portion of the first surface of the first substrate according to a predetermined pattern, and b) exposing the photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition to actinic electromagnetic radiation, thereby providing an adhesive precursor composition that spontaneously cures to provide the adhesive composition. The photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition comprises: at least one free-radically polymerizable compound and a photoactivatable redox initiation system comprising: (i) at least one photoactivatable reducing agent precursor; (ii) at least one transition metal compound comprising at least one metal selected from groups 5 to 11 in the Periodic Table of the Elements; (iii) optional organic peroxide; and (iv) optional quaternary ammonium halide. An article preparable according to the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: Curable compositions are provided including a curable system that requires a thermally generated amine to cause curing of the system, and a self-assembled particle distributed in the curable system. The curable system contains at least one reactive moiety and the self-assembled particle comprises a reactive amine ionically bound to a chromonic network. A multilayer article is also provided, including a substrate, a chromonic amine layer disposed on the substrate, and a curable layer disposed on the chromonic amine layer. Methods of making a cured composition and of adhering two substrates together are further provided.

Abstract: There is provided an article having at least a first surface having: a binder resin layer comprising an actinic radiation reactive polyurethane dispersion, where the binder resin layer has a first major surface opposite a second major surface; and a plurality of microspheres partially embedded and adhered to the first major surface of the binder resin layer. There is also provided a thermoset article derived from such thermoformable articles.

Abstract: Composite particles are provided that can be used to cure epoxy resins. More particularly, the composite particles have a porous polymeric core particle, a curing agent and/or a curing catalyst for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core particle, and a fluoropolymer-containing coating layer around the porous polymeric core particle. Additionally, curable compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and the composite particles. The epoxy resin typically does not react until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the curing agent and/or curing catalyst from the composite particle. Further, cured compositions formed from the curable composition are provided.
