摘要: An implant for use in spinal surgery comprises a resilient element having an inflatable cavity. It is formed of a biologically compatible material and is arranged for placement between end plates of adjacent vertebra. The implant may also include a wound disc replacement element. A method of performing spinal surgery on a patient comprises securely mounting a patient onto a patient support table; imaging a spinal region of the patient; building up a three-dimensional image file of the spinal region of the patient; storing the image file; and utilizing the image file for planning and carrying out computer controlled spinal surgery on the patient utilizing the implant. A computer-controlled surgical implant system comprises a steerable endosurgical implanting assembly operative to install the implant at a desired location in a patient; and a computerized controlled, which operates the steerable endosurgical implanting assembly.

摘要: Prosthetic intervertebral discs, systems including such prosthetic intervertebral discs, and methods for using the same are described. The subject prosthetic discs include upper and lower endplates separated by a compressible core member. The subject prosthetic discs exhibit stiffness in the vertical direction, torsional stiffness, bending stiffness in the saggital plane, and bending stiffness in the front plane, where the degree of these features can be controlled independently by adjusting the components, construction, and other features of the discs.

摘要: A joint prosthesis assembly includes a stem for disposition in a canal of a first bone constituting a first portion of the joint, a neck fixed to the stem, a collar fixed on the neck and having a peripheral groove, and an articulating head fixed on the neck. The assembly further includes a cup for disposition in a second bone constituting a second portion of the joint, an insert disposed in the cup to provide an interior lining for the cup, the insert being configured to receive the articulating head for movement therein, and the insert having a peripheral groove therein. A sleeve-shaped membrane is provided with a first O-ring fixed thereto at a first end thereof for disposition in the insert groove, and a second O-ring fixed thereto at a second end thereof for disposition in the collar groove. The membrane is thereby disposed to capture particulate debris generated by the articulating head in the insert. There is further contemplated a method for installing the assembly.

摘要: A stance phase flexion device for a prosthesis comprises a composite C-shaped spring member formed from a plurality of thermoset synthetic resin-impregnated high strength carbon filament sheets molded together in a compression mold. The spring member includes a standard hole pattern located in an upper leg of the spring and a standard hole pattern on the lower leg of the spring, for connecting the spring between adjacent prosthetic components for simulating normal flexion between the adjacent components. The C-shaped member is normally rigid in a rest position maintaining its C-shaped configuration. The C-shaped member has spaced apart upper and lower legs that elastically flex with energy absorbing compliance under a load tending to move the upper and lower legs together. The C-shaped member essentially resists elastic flexion in lateral directions and resists torsion loads.
