Abstract: Methods for detecting antigen-specific antibodies in a biological sample are described. The disclosed methods can be used for the diagnosis of a variety of autoimmune and infectious diseases. The methods use a neodymium magnet to efficiently isolate immune complexes. The disclosed methods are rapid, highly specific and sensitive, require very small volumes of biological sample, and do not require the use of radioactivity. With these advantageous features, the disclosed methods are amendable for point-of-care testing (POCT), which is currently not available for the detection of autoantibodies associated with autoimmune disease or for the detection of many pathogen-specific antibodies.

Abstract: A magnetic separation rack made of a plastics material for performing automated magnetic separation processes comprises a base plate in which a matrix of m×n wells is formed, and a comb-like hollow rod plate with a matrix of m×n hollow rods each connected with its upper end to a horizontal carrier plate and having a radially outwardly protruding ring collar on its lower end region. The carrier plate has a recess on the position of placement of each hollow rod, the extension of the recess corresponding at least to the projection of the ring collar onto the carrier plate. Each hollow rod has on its outer circumference a plurality of radial ribs extending along the axis of the hollow rod towards the upper end starting from the ring collar, and their connecting the hollow rod to the carrier plate is in one piece while extending radially through the recess.

In certain embodiments, self-contained sample analysis systems are disclosed, which include a reusable reader component, a disposable cartridge component, and a disposable sample collection component. The reader component may communicate with a remote computing device for the digital transmission of test protocols and test results. In various disclosed embodiments, the systems, components, and methods are configured to identify the presence, absence, and/or quantity of particular nucleic acids, proteins, or other analytes of interest, for example, in order to test for the presence of one or more pathogens or contaminants in a sample.

Abstract: Determining a modal amplitude of an inhomogeneous field includes: preparing an initial entangled state of a quantum sensor; subjecting the quantum sensor to the inhomogeneous field of the analyte; subjecting a first qudit sensor of the quantum sensor to a first perturbation pulse; receiving the first perturbation pulse by the first qudit sensor to prepare a first intermediate entangled state of the quantum sensor, the first intermediate entangled state comprising a first intermediate linear superposition; changing the initial linear superposition to the first intermediate linear superposition in response to receiving the first perturbation pulse by the quantum sensor; and determining a final entangled state of the quantum sensor after applying the first perturbation pulse to determine the modal amplitude of the inhomogeneous field of the analyte.
