Abstract:
A novel primerless adhesive composition with unique properties in automotive related applications, particularly in glass bonding applications; the process of making thereof.
Abstract:
A one-component epoxy-modified polyurethane and/or urea adhesive includes very high levels of reactive urethane group- and/or urea group-containing tougheners, an epoxy resin and epoxy hardener. These adhesives are formulated to cure at high temperatures and surprisingly provide high elongations, excellent thermal stability and good adhesive properties.
Abstract:
A one-component toughened epoxy-modified polyurethane and/or urea adhesive includes a mixture of dicyandiamide and a dihdyrazide as curing agents. The mixture of curing agents permits the adhesive to be cured at lower temperatures while developing good adhesive and mechanical properties in the cured adhesive.
Abstract:
A one-component structural adhesive comprising an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer having polymerized residues of: (a) 40 to 95 wt % of a polytetramethylene ether glycol; and (b) 5 to 60 wt % of an aliphatic diisocyanate.
Abstract:
A heat-curable structural adhesive includes a non-rubber-modified epoxy resin, a reaction product of a carboxyl- or amine-terminated butadiene polymer or copolymer and a bisphenol F-based epoxy resin, a elastomeric toughener containing capped isocyanate groups, one or more epoxy curing agents a moisture scavenger and a heat activatable catalyst comprising a mixture of a solid or liquid tertiary amine compound that has a boiling temperature of at least 130° C. and a novolac resin. The structural adhesive develops excellent bonding properties when cured at moderate temperatures, especially from 120 to 170° C., and in addition performs very well in environmental aging stress testing. The adhesive is particularly good for bonding aluminum to another metal, or bonding aluminum to aluminum.
Abstract:
A composition comprising: a) one or more isocyanate functional components; b) one or more compounds containing a cycloaliphatic tertiary amine: c) one or more low functional acrylate containing components having about 1 to 4 acrylate groups per molecule; d) one or more high functional acrylate containing components having 5 to about 10 acrylate groups per molecule; and e) one or more compounds containing a peroxide group; wherein the composition is a two component composition and components a) and b) are kept separate from component e) until cure is desired. The composition may be utilized as an adhesive.
Abstract:
Structural adhesives are prepared from an elastomeric toughener that contains urethane and/or urea groups, and have some terminal isocyanate groups that are capped with a phenol and other terminal isocyanate groups that are capped with a hydroxy-functional acrylate or a hydroxy-functional methacrylate. In certain embodiments, the presence of both types of capping on the toughener leads to higher impact peel strengths and a greater level of cohesive failure, than when the toughener is capped with a phenol an hydroxy-functional acrylate or hydroxy-functional methacrylate alone.
Abstract:
An epoxy adhesive composition is provided that has superior wash-off resistance after pre-gelling, and may be used, for example, in manufacturing processes, for example, in the automobile industry. The composition also provides unique viscosity profile after pre-gelling to significantly reduce failure mode in subsequent processing steps. In preferred embodiments the adhesive composition comprises an epoxy type resin and a gelling agent selected from polyesterdiols and polyvinyl butyrals.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present invention provide a one component epoxy adhesive composition having improved impact resistance at low temperatures, such as −40° C. or less. In a first aspect, the adhesive includes one or more epoxy resins; at least one polyurethane based toughener; at least one amphipathic block copolymer; and one or more epoxy curing agents. In a further, aspect epoxy adhesive compositions having improved wash off resistance are also provided.
Abstract:
The invention relates to resin compositions for epoxy adhesives, comprising a di-functional aromatic epoxy compound. The resin compositions and/or uncured adhesive compositions having low viscosity at low temperatures. Adhesives made therefrom have good strength and bulk properties. The invention includes methods of making and using the compositions, as well as adhesives made from the compositions.
