摘要: A supercharging apparatus for an internal combustion engine comprises an intake air passage communicating with a cylinder of an engine through an intake valve; a mechanical supercharger provided in the intake air passage; a variable valve timing mechanism for varying a closing timing of the intake valve with respect to a bottom dead center of an engine piston; a control unit for controlling the variable valve timing mechanism in accordance with an engine speed at least in a supercharging region wherein the mechanical supercharger is operative to supply supercharged air into the cylinder, in such a manner that the closing timing of the intake valve is switched between an advanced timing and a delayed timing; and an assist intake system for causing a dynamic supercharging effect in the intake air passage when the closing timing of the intake valve is switched to the delayed timing, thereby assisting the mechanical supercharger in a low engine operational region.

摘要: Plural cylinders are divided into cylinder groups consisting of the cylinders each having an equal inspiration stroke. The cylinder groups are so disposed as to allow their inspiration strokes to be apart from each other in a direction parallel to a crank axis in which a crankshaft extends. On its side surface, the cylinder head has an opening for an intake port which is communicated with an individual intake passage. Each of plural individual intake passage is extended from the respective cylinders for each cylinder group in the direction extending or elongated over the cylinder head and merged together at that location into a merged intake passage. The merged intake passage is extended toward the intermediate position between the two cylinder groups and thereafter curved, followed by extending toward the side of one side surface of the cylinder head.

摘要: An improved intake system in an internal combustion engine of a high compression ratio capable of producing a swirl of air-fuel mixture so as to increase the combustion speed thereof for improved combustion efficiency and hence fuel economy during light-load operation of the engine, and at the same time of effectively suppressing the generation of a swirl so as to reduce the level of combustion noises to a substantial extent during heavy-load operation of the engine at full-open throttle. The engine has a combustion chamber defined in a recess in the cylinder head above the top of a piston, slidably received in a cylinder bore in the cylinder block, at its top dead-center, with a squish area of a limited clearance formed adjacent the combustion chamber in the cylinder bore between the cylinder head and the piston. An intake passage in the cylinder head leading to the combustion chamber for supply of air-fuel mixture comprises a light-load intake passage for admitting the mixture into the combustion chamber or the squish area in the circumferential direction of the cylinder bore so as to produce a swirl under light-load operation of the engine, and a heavy-load intake passage having a valve adapted to be closed during light-load operation of the engine and opened during heavy-load operation of the engine for admitting the mixture into the combustion chamber or the squish area in the direction parallel to the central axis of the cylinder bore so as to suppress the generation of a swirl.

摘要: Various systems and methods are disclosed for controlling an internal combustion engine system having an internal combustion engine, a fuel injector which directly injects fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, and a supercharger which supercharges air into the combustion chamber. One example method comprises, injecting fuel into the combustion chamber multiple times so that a first part of the fuel is self ignited and a last part of the fuel being injected during the compression stroke or later in a cylinder cycle when a desired torque of said internal combustion engine system is in a first range; and increasing a pressure of air which the supercharger charges into the combustion chamber as amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber during a cylinder cycle increases when the desired torque is in the first range.

摘要: Disclosed is a supercharged direct-injection engine, which comprises a supercharging device (25, 30) for compressing intake air, and an injector 10 for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 5. In the engine, an excess air factor λ as a ratio of an actual air-fuel ratio to a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, at least in an engine warmed-up mode, is set to 2 or more in the entire engine-load region. Further, compressed self-ignited combustion is performed in a low engine-load region, and a supercharging amount by the supercharging device (25, 30) is increased along with an increase in engine load in a high engine-load region to allow the excess air factor λ to be kept at 2 or more. The engine of the present invention can effectively reduce NOx emission, while improving fuel economy.

摘要: The invention is intended to provide improved emission-cleaning performance by use of a three-way catalyst alone, without the need for a lean NOx catalyst, while ensuring a fuel economy improvement effect of lean burn operation. A multicylinder spark-ignition engine is constructed such that, in a pair of preceding and following cylinders whose exhaust and intake strokes overlap each other, burned gas discharged from the preceding cylinder (2A, 2D) which is currently in the exhaust stroke is introduced directly into the following cylinder (2B, 2C) which is currently in the intake stroke through an intercylinder gas channel (22) and gas discharged from only the following cylinder (2B, 2C) is led to an exhaust passage (20) provided with a three-way catalyst (24) in a low-load, low-speed operating range. Fuel supply to the individual cylinders is controlled in such a manner that combustion in the preceding cylinder (2A, 2D) is made under lean mixture conditions at an air-fuel ratio larger than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio by a specific amount and combustion in the following cylinder (2B, 2C) is made under conditions of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio created by supplying fuel to the burned gas introduced from the preceding cylinder (2A, 2D).

摘要: The supercharged internal combustion engine is so adapted as to set the air-fuel ratio to become a lean air-fuel ratio which is leaner than stoichiometric and lean enough to maximize improvements in a rate of consumption of fuel, for example, to the A/F ratio of 16, when the supercharger exists in such a supercharging region as demonstrating its sufficient degree of supercharging capability. When the air-fuel ratio is made lean in the supercharging region, exhaust gases are recirculated into the intake system of the engine, in addition to a mixed fuel. Preferably, the exhaust gases having lower temperatures are recirculated at the time of a high load of the engine in the supercharging region, while the exhaust gases having higher temperatures are recirculated at the time of a low load of the engine therein.
