Abstract:
A steel cord (10) adapted for the reinforcement of rubber products, the steel cord comprises a core (12) and a layer of filaments (14) with round cross-sections twisted around the core (12). The core (12) comprises a flat wire at a waveform, which lies in the plane of the flat wire. The wire is obtainable by first crimping a round wire and thereafter flattening the crimped wire. The filaments of the layer do not substantially contact each other to make spaces between each other to insure adequate rubber penetration into the cords. The steel cord has improvements on elongation at break.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a creep-optimized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber obtained by spinning an UHMWPE comprising olefinic branches (OB) and having an elongational stress (ES), and a ratio (OB/1000 C/ES) between the number of olefinic branches per thousand carbon atoms (OB/1000 C) and the elongational stress (ES) of at least 0.2, wherein said UHMWPE fiber when subjected to a load of 600 MPa at a temperature of 70° C., has a creep lifetime of at least 90 hours.
Abstract:
An elastic link for adjusting the distance between two members, at least one of which is mobile, is characterized in that it includes at least two elastic yarns each attached through one of the opposite ends thereof to two points distant from each other of an intermediate portion of a strap located between the extreme portions of the latter, under conditions such that when a tensile force is applied on said strap, the first elastic yarn is stretched first, the second elastic yarn being then stretched based on the magnitude of the applied tensile force.
Abstract:
An elongated steel element (12) with a martensite, tempered martensite, bainite or sorbite structure has a polymer coating (16) with a thickness lower than 20 μm immediately upon the elongated steel element (14). The friction coefficient and corrosion resistance are both improved by the polymer coating at a lower cost.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire containing a belt disposed radially outside a carcass in a tread portion, the belt including two cross plies of monofilament metallic cords laid at angles of from 15 to 30 degrees with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire, each monofilament cord composed of a waved single filament, the filament having a circular sectional shape having a diameter in the range of from 0.40 to 0.50 mm, or alternatively a non-circular sectional shape having an aspect ratio in the range of from 0.65 to 0.95 and a cross-sectional area in the range of 0.09 to 0.20 sq.mm.
Abstract:
In a composite of vulcanizable rubber or rubber-like composition with one or more metal reinforcement elements embedded therein, the metal reinforcement element is coated with a polymer or non-cured rubber composition compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said vulcanizable ruber composition to be reinforced, and additionally bearing functional groups either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono- or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promoter intercalated between said metal and said coating and bound to said metal by its second functional groups. A cured rubber or rubber-like product, for instance a pneumatic tire, is obtained by vulcanization of such a composite.
Abstract:
A steel element for reinforcing a rubber article comprises a brass layer and at least one additional outer film of metal or metal alloy selected from the group containing Fe, Ni, Mn, Cr, Mb, Va, Ti, Zi, Nb, Ta, Hf and W.
Abstract:
A rope-twisting machine for making ropes includes arranged on a base in succession a rotor carrying rope elements, a mandrel rigidly connected to the rotor and having shaping grooves, pressure rollers mounted in a casing, the axes of the pressure rollers being arranged in planes passing through the axis of rotation of the rotor. The casing is disposed concentrically relative to the mandrel, the casing and the rotor being capable of relative rotation.
Abstract:
Reinforcing elements comprise a plurality of elongated metallic members, with substantially rectangular cross sections, having parallel longitudinal axes and at least one of the wide sides of each being contiguous with a wide side of another of said elongated metallic members. A single wrap member is helically disposed around the elongated metallic members such that each turn of the wrap filament member is spaced apart from the next adjacent turns of the wrap member. Elastomeric articles reinforced with these reinforcing elements are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the continuous production of a twisted stranded wire by flattening a strand of wire, shearing it into a plurality of strands, and twisting the strands together.
