    摘要: A housing for an immunochromatography apparatus capable of detecting the concentration of an analyte contained in a sample even if it is relatively low in concentration is provided. In the housing 1 of immunochromatography apparatus having an observation window 5, the observation window 5 of the housing 1 is made of a colored transparent plastic material having a transmittance of at least 20%, preferably at least 40%, so that a detection line displayed on a developing strip 2 contained therewithin can be seen therethrough, the other portion of the housing than the observation window 5 is made of a colored transparent plastic material having a transmittance of at least 12%, and the observation window 5 and the housing 1 are simultaneously and integrally molded out of the same plastic material.

    摘要: A sorting apparatus and method for fractionating and simultaneously viewing individual microstructures, such as free cells, viruses, macromolecules, or minute particles in a fluid medium. The sorting apparatus is composed of a substrate having a receptacle located therein, the receptacle having sidewalls and a floor. An array of obstacles is positioned within the receptacle with the obstacles upstanding from the floor of the receptacle. A transparent cover overlies the array of obstacles to cover the receptacle and afford visual observation of migration of the microstructures exclusively through the array of obstacles. Electrodes may be positioned within the receptacle to generate an electric field in the fluid medium in the receptacle in order to induce the migration of the microstructures. Migration of the microstructures may also occur, for example, by a hydrodynamic field, an optical field, a magnetic field, or a gravity field applied to the receptacle. The obstacles of the array of obstacles may be of various shapes such as round posts, rectangular bunkers, or v-shaped or cup-shaped structures. The arrays of obstacles are formed of a predetermined and reproducible pattern, and can be reused. Methods for manufacturing and using the apparatus are also claimed.

    摘要: The present invention relates to methods and test strips for performing nucleic acid hybridizations on a porous chromatographic material having the capacity for rapid chromatographic solvent transport of non-immobilized reagents and reactive solution components by means of a selected chromatographic solvent. The strip includes a first end or contact site, at which chromatographic solvent transport begins, a second end, at which chromatographic solvent transport ends, and at least one zone positioned between the first and second ends. The zone is impregnated with a capture nucleotide sequence which is immobilized against solvent transport and which is capable of hybridization with a complementary nucleotide sequence or probe so as to render it immobilized in the capture zone. The strip may further include a probe zone between the first end and the capture zone, wherein a labeled probe is impregnated such that it is mobilized by the solvent and transported to the capture zone where hybridization can occur. Interfering sample components and unhybridized nucleic acids are cleared from the capture zone by chromatographic solvent transport to form an inherent wash.

    摘要: An improved liquid chromatography column having a horizontal flow of the liquid through the separating medium utilizing an improved fluid distribution system is disclosed. The improved fluid distribution system includes a screen or mesh arrangement, and a thin layer, plate or wafer-like separation medium. The screen or mesh type distribution system enables uniform distribution of the sample or eluting fluid radially over 360.degree. around the periphery of the separating medium bed, thus eliminating the high machining costs and other problems associated with systems employing grooves or passageways type distribution systems. The improved column as a whole may be fabricated so as to be disposable or may be constructed to have an even more simplified fluid distribution arrangement.

    摘要: A device is disclosed for use in a chromatographic system wherein a component of a mixture is partitioned between a liquid phase and an immobile phase. The device comprises at least one strip of a bibulous material. In the chromatographic system the component traverses at least a portion of the strip. The strip generally has a longitudinal edge substantially corresponding to the direction of traverse of the component. The longitudinal edge has the characteristic of substantially the same rate of traversal by the component along this edge when compared to the rate of traversal of the component along the body of the strip. The strips are prepared from a sheet of a bibulous material by non-deformative or non-compressive cutting of the sheet. The preferred cutting means is a laser beam.
