Abstract:
A catalyst is described that is useful for catalytic pyrolysis of biomass to produce a pyrolysis product. The catalyst includes (i) matrix material comprising a support and/or binder, and (ii) at least one metal oxide on the matrix material, wherein the metal oxide comprises metal selected from the group consisting of tungsten, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, and combinations thereof. Corresponding catalytic pyrolysis processes and catalytic pyrolysis apparatus are disclosed, in which the catalyst enables the production of low oxygen content, stable liquid intermediates that can be refined to make liquid hydrocarbon fuels.
Abstract:
A solvent system for the removal of acid gases from mixed gas streams is provided. Also provided is a process for removing acid gases from mixed gas streams using the disclosed solvent systems. The solvent systems may be utilized within a gas processing system.
Abstract:
The medical devices of the present disclosure are filled reservoirs such as a cylinder comprised of a polymer film which contains a reservoir of active agent, plus excipient, in some cases, for disease prevention, treatment, and/or contraception. The polymer film is permeable to the active agent after subcutaneous implantation of the device into a body. The cylinder is comprised by the lamination of one or two polymer films which are ultrasonically welded to contain the drug material. The use of an ultrasonic welding process enables sealing of the polymer films to create the closed cylinder. The medical device is useful for long term disease prevention, such as prevention of HIV infection.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to delivery and release systems, such as core-shell particles. An exemplary composition according to the disclosure can include a degradable polymeric shell surrounding a core that includes a crosslinker, which can encompass a metal, such as chromium. The core-shell particles can be provided with a gel-forming polymer, such as a polyacrylamide, into a subterranean reservoir having conditions such that the shell of the core-shell polymer degrades, and the so-released metal is effective to at least partially crosslink the gel-forming polymer to form a gel. The so-formed gel can be effective to control water flow through the subterranean reservoir, such as in relation to a waterflood of the reservoir.
Abstract:
An electronic package includes an adhesion layer between a first substrate and a second substrate. The adhesion layer is patterned to define openings aligned with through-substrate interconnects and corresponding bond pads. A conductive plane is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate, adjacent to the adhesion layer.
Abstract:
A heat transfer system and related method of heat transfer is provided. The heat transfer system includes a tubular receiver positioned to receive heat from a heat source, the receiver comprising one or more enclosed tubes configured for gravity-driven flow of a particulate heat transfer fluid therethrough in a dense, unfluidized state having a particle volume fraction of at least about 25%; and at least one storage vessel in fluid communication with the tubular receiver and positioned to receive the heat transfer fluid therefrom, wherein the particulate heat transfer fluid includes a plurality of particles of a metal-containing material having a melting point of greater than 800 C, the heat transfer fluid being substantially free of a liquid component.
Abstract:
An electronic package may be fabricated by forming a first layer of insulating material on a first substrate such that the first layer covers a contact pad; forming an opening through the first layer to expose the contact pad; forming an un-patterned second layer on the first layer, the second layer including an adhesive having a viscosity less than that of the first layer, wherein a region of the second layer obstructs the contact pad; removing the region to re-expose the contact pad; aligning a second substrate with the first substrate such that a via of the second substrate is aligned with the opening; bonding the first substrate and the second substrate together at the second layer; and forming an interconnect in contact with the contact pad by depositing a conductive material through the via and the opening.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a mixed salt composition which is useful as a CO2 sorbent. The mixed salt composition comprises a Mg salt, and at least one Group IA element salt, where the Mg and Group IA element are present at a molar ratio of from 3:1 to 8:1. The resulting composition can adsorb about 20% or more of CO2 in a gas. Via varying the molar ratios of the components, and the Group IA element, one can develop compositions which show optional functionality at different conditions. The composition is especially useful in the adsorptive capture of CO2 on mobile sources, such as transportation vehicles, where it can be recovered during regeneration of the adsorbent composition and the CO2 used as a coolant gas, as a reactant in manufacture of fuel, and so forth.
Abstract:
A fluoride treated ceramic material is provided, the ceramic material comprising fluorinated metal oxide on its surface. A method for the preparation of such treated ceramics is also provided, the method involving exposure of the ceramic to a fluorine-containing reagent. The ceramic materials can be further functionalized so as to bond to functional ligands and/or resins. The ceramic materials can be, for example, ceramic medical implants or particulate ceramic, which can be incorporated within dental and/or orthopedic composites.
