Abstract:
A spectroscopy system comprising at least two laser modules, each of the laser modules including a laser cavity, a quantum cascade gain chip for amplifying light within the laser cavity, and a tuning element for controlling a wavelength of light generated by the modules. Combining optics are used to combine the light generated by the at least two laser modules into a single beam and a sample detector detects the single beam returning from a sample.
Abstract:
An optical phase scrambler is coupled to a laser source to randomly modulate the optical phase. Since the optical phase is continuously changing in a random fashion, at the output of an etalon interferometer formed in the optical path, the two or more components in the interference always have certain time delay between each other, resulting in a random phase different between each other. Therefore, after interference, the fringe amplitude varies randomly as well. Then at the receiver side, the fringe noise is greatly reduced after averaging over time.
Abstract:
A method of calibrating a spectral imaging system is disclosed. The spectral imaging system comprises an interferometer having a beam splitter and at least a first reflector and a second reflector. The method comprises: obtaining data pertaining to an interference pattern model, operating the spectral imaging system to provide an interference pattern of a received light beam, and varying a relative orientation between at least two of: the beam splitter, the first reflector and the second reflector, until the interference pattern of the input light beam substantially matches the interference pattern model.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for measuring amplitude and/or phase of a molecular vibration uses a polarization modulated pump beam and a stimulating Stokes beam on a probe of a scanning probe microscope to detect a Raman scattered Stokes beam from the sample. The detected Raman scattered Stokes beam is used to derive at least one of the amplitude and the phase of the molecular vibration.
Abstract:
Exemplary apparatus and method can be provided for obtaining data regarding a plurality of samples. For example, using at least one arrangement, it is possible to receive interferometric information that is based on radiations provided from a reference and the samples that are provided in respective chambers. Alternatively and/or in addition, based on the interferometric information, it is possible to discriminate between agents to identify a particular agent that affects a particular function within at least one of the samples.
Abstract:
A spectrometer comprises a plurality of isolated optical channels comprising a plurality of isolated optical paths. The isolated optical paths decrease cross-talk among the optical paths and allow the spectrometer to have a decreased length with increased resolution. In many embodiments, the isolated optical paths comprise isolated parallel optical paths that allow the length of the device to be decreased substantially. In many embodiments, each isolated optical path extends from a filter of a filter array, through a lens of a lens array, through a channel of a support array, to a region of a sensor array. Each region of the sensor array comprises a plurality of sensor elements in which a location of the sensor element corresponds to the wavelength of light received based on an angle of light received at the location, the focal length of the lens and the central wavelength of the filter.
Abstract:
A method for the acquisition (AU) of a spectrally resolved, two-dimensional image by means of Fourier transform (FT) spectroscopy or Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, is characterized in that, during multiple passes (D1-D4) of an optical path difference (OG) between two partial rays (14a, 14b) over an identical range (IB), different subsets of detector elements (22) of an array detector (5) are read out and the signals of the read-out detector elements (22) of the multiple passes (D1-D4) are Fourier transformed and combined to form the spectrally resolved image. A method is thereby provided for the acquisition of two-dimensional, spectrally resolved images, in which the influence of vibrations on the measurement is reduced, and which is less affected by the movement of objects to the resolved spectrally.
Abstract:
The invention provides a dynamically swept tunable laser system and method for measuring sensor characteristics obtained from an array of optical sensors comprising means for dividing the total wavelength sweep of the laser into different regions in any particular order where each region contains single or multiple contiguous sweep segments and where each sweep segment is referenced by a start and a stop reference and can have different lengths compared to the other sweep segments. The sensor characteristics are determined from each region swept by the tunable laser. The invention provides for the tunable laser to be adapted to operate in a quasi-continuous mode to select segments in any order. The relative sweep rates of regions can be changed such that some regions can be swept more times than other regions.
Abstract:
An interferometer includes a first assembly having a base, a beam splitter assembly to split light into first and second portions, and a fixed mirror for reflecting the first portion of light; and a second assembly movable with respect to the first assembly, and having first and second scan carriages, and a movable mirror connected to the second scan carriage for reflecting the second portion of light. The beam splitter assembly combines the reflected first and second portions of light into a recombined radiation beam. Inner bearing flexures enable movement of the first scan carriage relative to the base, and outer bearing flexures enable movement of the second scan carriage relative to the first scan carriage, such that a plane containing the movable mirror is maintained parallel to multiple planes containing the movable mirror at respective distances between the second and first assemblies during scan movement of the movable mirror.
