摘要: A sponge disposal tray for use in conjunction with medical surgical procedures which comprises a plurality of containers which are normally closed by a thin sheet material access cover. The access cover includes a plurality of access openings with a single access opening connecting with a single container. Each access opening comprises a pair of crossed slits which is normally closed but openable upon insertion of a single sponge into a container. A removable sealing cover is to be adhesively secured to the frame and to completely cover said access cover. The frame may include a sponge storage compartment. Also the bottom surface of each of the containers may include an adhesive layer to facilitate frictional connection of the tray to a supportive surface.

Non-linear mixing of two frequencies in a radiofrequency transponder is used. The transponder may be a small film deposition of Ferrite material exhibiting gyro-magnetic resonance at selected frequencies or a solid state device.

摘要: A surgical sponge collector and drainage system includes a tray having a smooth concave wall contoured for fitting directly against the human body and mounted in contact therewith. The tray includes a perforated shelf disposed below its peripheral rim as a discard area for collecting used sponges and permitting liquid to drain therethrough and ultimately drain to a collector. Aspirating tubes are also provided and inserted into the body at the operation site for withdrawing liquid therefrom into the same collector as from the tray.

摘要: A disposable suture package and needle organizer consists of a unitary structure which forms a plurality of pockets, each large enough to accommodate a stack of suture packages of a different type and size. The top side of each pocket is transparent so that the suture type and size in the pocket is visible through the pocket top side. Forming part of the organizer are a plurality of magnetic bars preferably arranged in parallel spaced apart pairs. The magnetic bars are used to attract and hold the suture needles after their use in the operation. The pockets enable the various suture types and sizes to be continually segregated prior to and during the operation to avoid package mix-up, and enable speedy location of each suture type and/or size, as well as to expedite and simplify the needle count when required.

The system, methods and apparatus may include features such as a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scanner adapted to detect entry and exit of a surgical sponge RFID identifier associated with each of a plurality of surgical sponges. In addition, an Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) scanner may be included that is adapted to detect the presence of a surgical sponge having an EAS identifier associated with each of the plurality of surgical sponges. A control circuit may be configured to determine and provide an indication that all the sponges have been removed from the patient, or that one or more sponges still remain in the patient.

摘要: An ultrasonic device may include an electromechanical system defined by a resonant frequency and further include an ultrasonic transducer coupled to an ultrasonic blade. The device may be composed of two or more components, one of which is reusable and one of which is disposable. A method of detecting a proper installation of the components may include determining a spectroscopy signature of the blade coupled to the transducer, comparing the signature to a reference signature, determining an installation state of the components based on the comparison, and controlling a delivery of power to the transducer based on the comparison. The method may include enabling an operation of the device when the installation state of components is proper. The method may further include disabling the device when the installation state is not proper and generating a warning. The warning may be visible, audible, or tactile.

摘要: A surgical instrument comprising a shaft, an end effector, a housing, a drive assembly, and a manually-driven actuator is disclosed. The end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw rotatable relative to the first jaw between an open position and a clamped position. The housing comprises a rotary input movable by a motor. The drive assembly is operably engaged with the rotary input. The drive assembly is movable by the motor in a motorized mode of operation to transition the second jaw toward the clamped position. The drive assembly is movable in a non-motorized mode of operation by the manually-driven actuator to permit a transition of the second jaw toward the open position to release tissue between the first jaw and the second jaw.

摘要: An ultrasonic device may include an electromechanical ultrasonic system defined by a predetermined resonant frequency and include an ultrasonic transducer coupled to an ultrasonic blade. A method of delivering energy to the device may include applying energy to the blade at a first power level via the transducer coupled to the blade, measuring a complex impedance of the transducer, receiving a complex impedance feedback data point, comparing the complex impedance feedback data point to a reference complex impedance characteristic pattern, and determining that the blade is contacting a vessel based on the comparison. The method may also include disabling the power applied to the transducer and switching to a lower power level. The method may further include generating a warning that the blade is contacting a vessel, such as a light or a sound. An ultrasonic surgical instrument may effect the method.
