摘要: Processes for preparing same for demateably interconnecting arrays of contact pads. The connector has a preformed sheet-form member provided with a series of apertures through each of which an electrically conductive plated metal deposit extends. An integral end of the deposits protrudes outwardly beyond a surface of the sheet-form member, forming contact surfaces for demateably engaging the pads.

摘要: First and second electrodes are formed on a pair of opposite surfaces of a polyimide film. The first and second electrodes respectively have a large number of small holes which oppose each other through the polyimide film. An excimer laser beam is radiated on one of the first and second electrodes. A portion of the excimer laser beam radiated on the electrodes is reflected by the electrode surfaces. The remaining portion of the laser beam radiated inside the holes of the electrodes disconnects the chemical bond of the polyimide without generating heat. As a result, holes each having a sectional shape defined by a corresponding hole fomed in the electrodes are formed in the solid insulating body.

摘要: A heat exchanger tube assembly having one end of a copper tube soldered to the end of an aluminum tube, and a method of minimizing galvanic corrosion at the soldered joint. The aluminum tube, having a roughened inner surface for enhanced heat transfer, fits inside the copper tube at the soldered joint. A heat shrinkable thermoplastic tube having a thermosetting adhesive inner coating is placed around the joint and then heated. The heat shrinks the thermoplastic tube, causing it to contract and to adhere tightly against and around the joint. The plastic tube with its adhesive inner coating protects the joint from atmospheric moisture and thus inhibits galvanic corrosion that would eventually create a leak in the tube joint.

摘要: A laser drilling control system utilizing photoacoustic feedback is described. The control system provides an accurate monitoring of the laser drilling of a multilayered printed circuit board thereby allowing uniform drilling through layers of different optical and photoacoustic properties by both analyzing the photoacoustic feedback signals received, and adjusting optimally the laser parameters such as pulse duration, wavelength, energy, pulse repetition rate, and the number of pulses, for each successive layer. The system also provides an end point detection which prevents underdrilling overheating, and overdrilling of underlying layers and associated damages. According to another aspect of this invention, the control system can be used as a sensitive misregistration detector for aligning the laser beam to a selected drill site for subsequent drilling at the selected drill site.

摘要: This invention relates to apparatus for facilitating the construction of a heat exchanger, such as a condenser or evaporator employed in an air conditioning system, wherein exchanger tubes extending through a plate fin assembly are joined together by means of return bend connections or the like. The ends of the tube are provided with an oval shaped bell in which are telescoped the return bends. Diametrically opposed nibs are formed on the outer surface of the return bend connectors near the distal end thereof. The outside diameter over the nibs is slightly larger than the minor inside diameter of the oval bell. The nibs are inserted into the bell aligned along the minor diameter of the opening. The nibs are thus caused to ride in engagement against the wall of the bell to frictionally support the connector in assembly. The joint is then immersed in a molten solder bath whereby solder flows freely into the joint region along the major axis to create a highly reliable joint.

摘要: The tangling of helically coiled wire articles during bulk handling and shipment is prevented by providing integral nodules or beads of fused metal at each end of the articles which enclose the severed ends of the wire. In the case of tungsten wire coils that are designed for use in electric lamps and similar devices and are wound on iron mandrels, the fused beads are composed of tungsten-iron alloy and are formed in situ during coil manufacture by melting the ends of the mandrel with a source of concentrated heat, such as a laser, focused electron beam, plasma torch, or oxy-hydrogen flame. The tungsten-iron alloy beads remain on the end turns of the coil during the subsequent mandrel-dissolving operation, are ductile and are formed without embrittling the tungsten wire. Apparatus for manufacturing such beaded-end coils on a mass production basis using a continuous mandrel-coil stock wire and a laser is disclosed.
