Abstract:
Concentrates of N-substituted morpholines of the formula O(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.2 NR'YR", wherein R' is a divalent organic radical of at least one to about 30 carbon atoms, Y ##STR1## or --NH.sup.3 --, R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbyl radical of at least one carbon atom and R" is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical of at least 15 carbon atoms, are useful as additives for hydrocarbyl products. Particularly preferred embodiments of the invention include concentrates wherein Y is ##STR2## R' is 1,3-propylene and R" is a hydrocarbyl group of at least about forty carbon atoms. These concentrates have utility as, for example, additives for lubricant compositions.
Abstract:
Lubricating compositions comprising a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of at least one additive of the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN R is a hydrocarbon-based group of up to about 30 carbon atoms and having a valence of m + q; each R' is independently selected from hydrogen and a hydrocarbon-based group of up to about 20 carbon atoms; x and y are independently from 2 to 5; z is from zero to 5; q is from zero to 4 and m is from 1 to 5 with the proviso that m + q is from 1 to 6, have increased resistance to oxidative degradation and anti-wear properties.
Abstract:
There is provided by the present invention, a silicone fluid useful as a hydraulic fluid and more particularly useful as a brake fluid for vehicles. This silicone fluid comprises generally a linear diorganopolysiloxane having a viscosity at 25.degree. C of 20 to 500 centistokes. Various materials and additives can be added to such a silicone fluid so as to improve its properties as a hydraulic fluid.
Abstract:
An improved grease composition is disclosed and comprises a novel combination of a Mannich base, a poly- or monourea thickener and an alkaline earth metal carbonate or carboxylate within a lubricating oil. The Mannich base is prepared by reacting formaldehyde, alkylphenol and an amine selected from dialkanolamine, N,N-dialkanol-alkylenediamine and alkylamine.
Abstract:
Novel alkoxysilane cluster compounds are described having the formula RSi[Osi(OR').sub.3 ].sub.3 wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl group and each R' is independently selected from the same group as R with the proviso that at least a majority of R' radicals are sterically hindered alkyl groups having at least 3 carbon atoms. The preparation of these novel alkoxysilane cluster compounds is also described.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a nitrogen-containing ester of a carboxy-interpolymer having a reduced specific viscosity ranging from about 0.05 to 2.0. The carboxy-interpolymers, from which the nitrogen-containing esters are obtained, are derived from at least one monomer selected from the class consisting of aliphatic olefins and styrene and at least one monomer comprising an unsaturated carboxylic acid, the anhydride or ester thereof. The nitrogen-containing ester may be characterized as having in the polymeric structure carboxylic-ester groups derived from a high molecular weight alcohol having at least 7 aliphatic carbon atoms and carbonyl-polyamino groups derived from hydrazine or a hydrocarbon-substituted hydrazine. The nitrogen-containing ester may be used alone or in combination with other additives in small but effective amounts in various oleaginous materials including lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
A grease may be made having synergistic extreme pressure properties using a major amount of a base oil and a thickener and a minor amount of low density polyethylene and known extreme pressure enhancing additives.
