摘要: Bone such as cortical or cancellous bone or connective tissue are centrifuged as a solution is applied to the tissue in a continuous process. The centrifuge creates forces, which cause the flowing solution to penetrate substantially all of the cavities of the tissue. The solution, which may be alcohol, a detergent, an oxidizer, or a surfactant, with or without water, flushes the cavities of the tissue and removes and inactivates viral and bacterial contaminants. In a second embodiment, bone or connective tissue is centrifuged in a batch process to remove contaminants from cavities in the tissue by first spinning the tissue dry and then submerging the tissue in a viral/bacteria cleansing solution and centrifuging the submerged tissue and solution at a sufficiently high speed and radius from the spin axis to create substantially high G forces on the tissue and solution to force the solution into and through the tissue cavities. The solution with the flushed contaminants is then removed from the vicinity of the tissue. In a further embodiment, an enzyme is centrifuged with the tissue to digest lipids and proteins which are then removed with a flushing solution which may also inactivate viral and bacterial contaminants. In yet a further embodiment, the centrifuge can be used to infuse biologically and/or structurally useful materials into the tissue. Further, the lipids and proteins may be removed by a chemically active agent such as oxo anions.

摘要: In the manufacture of sodium tripolyphosphate, the make up liquor containing the requisite sodium and phosphorus values, is treated with from about 0.01 to 0.1 weight percent of hydrogen peroxide before the liquor is heated to form sodium tripolyphosphate. The hydrogen peroxide treatment prevents dark oily impurities from forming on the surface of aqueous solutions of the sodium tripolyphosphate thus treated.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for making bone particles from bone of a variety of sizes and a workpiece forming and holding device for use with the method. The workpiece forming device includes a base and a base frame attached to the surface of the base. An apparatus for forming a solidified mass of bone and immobilization medium is also provided which includes the workpiece forming device and a detachable former member enclosing the base frame. Bone is immersed in an immobilization medium within such workpiece forming device, which is solidified to form a solidified mass of bone and immobilization medium and then subdivided to provide particles of bone in association to with immobilization medium. The immobilization medium may be optionally removed to leave bone particles suitable for use in orthopedic applications including implants.

摘要: Purifying human derived collagen from human tissue includes treating harvested human tissue with an enzyme to form a collagen product, deactivating the enzyme with a non-alkaline enzyme deactivation solution, and collecting the collagen product resulting from the enzyme treatment, where the collected collagen product includes a preserved amount of its natural collagen constituents. Various medical implants can be formed using the isolated, enzymatically-treated human derived collagen having an amount of its natural collagen constituents preserved, and may include implantable sponges, patches, tubes, structural supports and coatings, and which may be used for repair, barrier, support and/or stabilization purposes.
