An anti-seize composition which is non-flowable and dimensionally stable at temperatures greater than about 120° F. and dispensable at room temperature without the application of heat is provided. The composition includes a solid anti-seize lubricant, such as of metallic copper, metallic nickel, metallic aluminum, metallic lead, metallic zinc, graphite, calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, calcium fluoride, calcium stearate, lithium, molybdenum disulfide, boron nitride, barium sulfate, or combinations thereof. The anti-seize lubricant is dispersed in a carrier which is a solid at about room temperature. The carrier includes a grease with an ASTM D 217 penetration at 25° C. from about 200 to about 400 mm, a matrix material, and a naphthenic petroleum oil having a viscosity of less than about 300 SUS at 100° F. and having an API gravity at 60° F. from about 23 to about 25. The matrix material is a polymeric material. Optionally, a refined petroleum wax may also be included.

The invention includes a method of forming a desired medical device by melt mixing the selected polymers and then forming the polymer blend into the desired shape. The method further includes cross-linking the polymer blend after or before being shaped into the medical device in order to improve the retention of the lubricous polymer during exposure to abrasive forces or to materials which would extract the lubricious surface, such as water. Cross-linking the polymer blend may be improved by adding a cross-linking agent and/or cross-linking he polymer blend in the presence of a selected inert atmosphere.

The present invention also relates to a method of coating parts made from a low softening point materials with an anti-friction and anti-wear hard coating composition. The coating composition comprises a mixture of (i) solid lubricants comprising boron nitride, graphite and molybdenum disulfide, (ii) a thermoset resin system, (iii) catalyst for curing the resin system and (iv) a solvent system comprising highly volatile solvents. The coating composition is applied to the part and cured to form a coating on the part.

The present lubricant compositions comprise a mixture of graphite, molybdenum disulfide and polytetrafluoroethylene in specified proportions within a matrix of an organic resin. When applied to surfaces that are in sliding contact with one another the compositions exhibit high wear resistance, good initial conformability, and a coefficient of friction following use that is lower than the initial coefficient of friction. The compositions are particularly suited for application to engine pistons.

The coating product of this inventions contains the following ingredients: copolymers made from acrylic, vinylacrylic, and acrylstyrene monomers, has carboxylic radicals from acrylic and/or methacrylic acids, and has an Ia of 30 to 60 mg. of KOH. The water soluble copolymers and lubricatory additives, which include natural or synthetic waxes, graphite, and molybdenum sulfide, are in solid form dispersed in aqueous solution at a ratio of from 1 to 10%.
