Reinforcing packaging strips comprised of low melt point, low density polyethylene coated on at least one surface of a substrate. Corrugated paperboard packaging comprising a fluted paperboard medium having in selected areas a reinforcing liner, wherein said reinforcing liner has an adhesive surface which when heat activated adheres to the medium surface. The resulting structure has high strength and tear resistance in designated areas.
Abstract:
A core crush resistant prepreg for use in making a fiber reinforced composite panel structure is provided. The prepreg comprises a woven fabric consisting essentially of carbon fiber tow strands impregnated with a hardenable polymeric resin composition. Typically the fabric has an areal weight of from about 180 to about 205 grams per square meter. The prepreg has an average fiber tow aspect ratio of less than about 15.4, a prepreg thickness of at least about 0.245 mm, and a prepreg openness of at least about 1.2 percent but less than about 6.0 percent. Preferably, the resin composition is predominantly viscous in nature and has a tan null value of between 0.9 and 2.0 at an elevated temperature between 70null C. and 140null C., and an average epoxy functionality of greater than 2.0. A method for evaluating core crush resistance properties of a prepreg is also provided. The method includes determining a fiber tow average aspect ratio of the prepreg, determining a prepreg thickness, and comparing said average fiber tow aspect ratio and prepreg thickness to a set of predetermined values.

A cube corner article having a structured surface of geometric structures, each geometric structure having a plurality of faces at least some of which are arranged as a cube corner element, is made by providing a first substrate having a plurality of grooves therein, replicating the first substrate in a second substrate, and forming a second plurality of grooves in the second substrate. Geometric structures in the second substrate are formed in part by replication of the first plurality of grooves and in part by the formation of the second plurality of grooves.
Abstract:
A multi-microlayer thermoplastic film structure and methods of making the same. More specifically, this invention relates to a multi-microlayer film having a plurality of corrugated polymer layers and a plurality of thermoplastic elastomer layers. Filler materials and surfactants may be included in either the corrugated polymer layer or the thermoplastic elastomer layer. The multi-microlayer films may be formed in a co-extrusion process.

A web-shaped structure includes a first plastic member provided with a plurality of combination strips, and a second plastic member provided with a plurality of combination strips each combined with each of the combination strips of the first plastic member in a corrugated and intersecting manner, so that the first plastic member and the second plastic member intersect each other and are combined integrally, thereby forming the web-shaped structure which may be used to make a product, such as the cellular phone bag, the hand bag, the basket or the like, so that the product has a corrugated and web-shaped spatial effect, thereby enhancing the aesthetic quality of the product.

In single-wall corrugated paperboard comprising corrugating medium joined on both sides to two liners and a tear line along which the corrugated paperboard can be torn open, the two liners are severed directly opposite each other, whilst the corrugating medium has no incision, or merely in the region of of the flute peaks, the tear line being configured straight or curved. This system results in the structural integrity of the corrugated paperboard being hardly detrimented. In the tearing open action the cut liners act as knife edges which cleanly sever the corrugating medium at the defined locations, producing neat cut edges of pleasing visual appeal.

Lightweight, hook-engageable materials capable of functioning as hook-engageable fasteners are treated and configured for use for economical and attractive displays and decorations. Laminates of the material with various substrates with associated printing are used to form visually attractive point of purchase, merchandise or trade show displays. Self-supporting or stable materials having lettering or designs on their surface are used to form banners or floor coverings. Non-woven materials with varied areal density of fibers perform those functions with particular economy. Low density knit fabrics are also useful according to broad features of the invention. Methods are shown to produce reinforced corrugated board and desirably laminated and printed materials having hook-engageable surfaces.

It comprises three layers: a first layer of plastic material that provides the whole with mechanical strength, a second intermediate layer of foam forming a union between the first and second layer, and a third layer of impermeable plastic material and is characterised in that the first layer (2) is mase on an elastomeric polyolefin of high strength and elasticity, in that the second layer (3) is of closed-cell, physically or chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam, and in that the third layer (4) is of polyolefin with high tear resistance. A light waterproofing sheet is obtained which withstands extreme meteorological conditions, is resistant to chemical agents, while it also has optimum mechanical properties at a lower thickness thanks to the material of which the first layer is comprised and unlike other sheets existing it has no ageing limit, which measn that once the sheets have been fitted they do not have to be replaced.

This invention describes methods of synthesis and applications of planarized photonic crystals. Provided are simple, quick, reproducible and inexpensive methods that combine self-assembly and lithography to achieve the first examples of vectorial control of thickness, structure, area, topology, orientation and registry of colloidal crystals that have been patterned in substrates for use in lab-on-chip and photonic chip technologies. 1-, 2 and 3-D colloidal crystals patterned either on or within substrates can be used for templating inverted colloidal crystal replica patterns made of materials like silicon as well as building micron scale structural defects in such colloidal crystals. These photonic crystals can form the basis of a range of optical devices that may be integrated within photonic chips and coupled to optical fibers and/or waveguides to enable development of highly compact planarized optically integrated photonic crystal devices and circuits for use in future all-optical computers and optical telecommunication systems.

A belt and method of marking a belt. A layer of polyethylene material is joined or cured to a belt. The layer is optically distinguishable from a belt body. The layer is etched to expose a portion of the belt body in order to contrast the layer with the belt body. A second layer of polyethylene material may be applied adjacent to the first layer. The second layer is optically distinguishable from the first layer. The first or second layer is etched using cutting, grinding or laser light in order to expose portions of the adjacent layer, or of the belt body, thus providing a method of permanently marking the belt.
