Abstract:
A method for monitoring non-rotating turbomachine parts includes the step of measuring displacement of at least one turbomachine part. A monitoring step monitors displacement of the turbomachine part with a non-contact type sensor. A collecting step collects data regarding the displacement of the turbomachine part. An analyzing step analyzes the data to determine if the displacement exceeds a predetermined threshold range. The non-contact type sensor may be attached to the turbomachine by a rod formed of a material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and a target may be attached to a stationary structure in close proximity to the non-contact type sensor.
Abstract:
A method for preventing corrosion of an impeller-shaft assembly of a turbomachine comprises the steps of assembling an impeller on a shaft in order to define an impeller-shaft assembly; plating the assembly by inserting the assembly into a plating bath; and coating at least a first predefined surface on the impeller and a second predefined surface on the shaft wherein the coating step is performed by spraying the predefined surfaces.
Abstract:
A turbine shroud segment is metal injection molded (MIM) about a low melting point material insert. The low melting point material is dissolved using heat during the heat treatment cycle required for the MIM material, thereby leaving internal cooling passages in the MIM shroud segment without extra manufacturing operation.
Abstract:
A turbine component assembly for a gas turbine engine includes: a first component having a first coefficient of thermal expansion and including an end face; a second component including a mating surface abutting the end face; and a fastener having a second coefficient of thermal expansion different from the first coefficient of thermal expansion, the fastener including a shank engaging the second component and an enlarged head engaging a mounting slot in the first component; wherein the mating surface and the end face shaped to permit relative pivoting movement between the first and second components.
Abstract:
A fan slider for use in a fan assembly to push a fan blade radially outward of a rotating axis of the gas turbine engine. The fan slider may include a fan slider body coated with a nanocrystalline metallic coating and a slider spring.
Abstract:
Dual alloy turbine rotors and methods for manufacturing the same are provided. The dual alloy turbine rotor comprises an assembled blade ring and a hub bonded to the assembled blade ring. The assembled blade ring comprises a first alloy selected from the group consisting of a single crystal alloy, a directionally solidified alloy, or an equi-axed alloy. The hub comprises a second alloy. The method comprises positioning a hub within a blade ring to define an interface between the hub and the blade ring. The interface is a non-contacting interface or a contacting interface. The interface is enclosed by a pair of diaphragms. The interface is vacuum sealed. The blade ring is bonded to the hub after the vacuum sealing step.
Abstract:
A method is provided for casting an article such as a blade having an attachment root and an airfoil, the airfoil having a proximal end and a distal end. The method comprises introducing a molten alloy into a mold; and varying a composition of the introduced alloy during the introduction so as to produce a compositional variation.
Abstract:
A magnetic impeller for a blood pump such as a magnetically driven, rotary ventricular assist device for pumping blood of a patient, the impeller comprising a magnetic alloy including platinum, cobalt, and boron.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present application include a gas turbine system. The system may include a rotor wheel and one or more impeller vanes radially disposed on the rotor wheel. The system may also include one or more fluid passages defined by adjacent impeller vanes. The one or more fluid passages may be radially disposed across the rotor wheel. Moreover, the system may include one or more shape memory alloy valves disposed within each of the fluid passages. The one or more shape memory alloy valves may be configured to change shape to control a flow of fluid through the fluid passages.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a turbine blade including a turbine blade substrate including an iron-base alloy; an erosion shield plate including a Co-base alloy; and a shim including a Ni—Fe alloy, in which the erosion shield plate is fixed to a leading edge of the turbine blade substrate with the shim therebetween by an electron beam welding. Thus, a turbine blade having a highly reliable, bonded portion of an erosion shield, and a turbine rotor and a steam turbine using the turbine blade are provided.
