Abstract:
An apparatus and method for a mandrel used during an electroforming process. The mandrel is formed of a structural wax and includes a metallic layer utilized to formulate a metal component. During the electroforming process, the mandrel is actively cooled utilizing a closed loop. The closed loop includes the mandrel and a heat exchanger through which a coolant flows.
Abstract:
A method for producing a hollow structure useful as a base material for a heat sink or the like which increases a heat dissipation property of devices mounted in various kinds of electronic apparatuses, without sacrificing downsizing, thinning, weight reduction, and multifunctionality, and provides a hollow structure. The method including: producing a plated composite by coating a surface of a core made of aluminum to form a copper plating layer; cutting off part of the plated composite to expose cut surfaces of the core; and turning a part corresponding to the core into a hollow part by immersing the plated composite in a sodium solution which dissolves aluminum but does not dissolve copper and selectively dissolving and removing only the aluminum, thereby producing a hollow structure whose skeletal part is composed of all copper plating layers.
Abstract:

A method for making a metallic leading edge guard of the type haying a nose with first and second wings extending therefrom is disclosed. The method includes machining from a metallic blank a first half comprising a first portion of the nose and one of the wings, wherein the first portion of the nose includes an interface surface; and electroforming a second half comprising a second portion of the nose and the second wing, wherein the second half is joined to the first half at the interface surface.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide a novel fabrication method and structure for reducing structural weight in radio frequency cavity filters and novel filter structure. The novel filter structure is fabricated by electroplating the required structure over a mold. The electrodeposited composite layer may be formed by several layers of metal or metal alloys with compensating thermal expansion coefficients. The first or the top layer is a high conductivity material or compound such as silver having a thickness of several times the skin-depth at the intended frequency of operation. The top layer provides the vital low loss performance and high Q-factor required for such filter structures while the subsequent compound layers provide the mechanical strength.
Abstract:
Methods, structures, devices and systems are disclosed for fabrication of microtube engines using membrane template electrodeposition. Such nanomotors operate based on bubble-induced propulsion in biological fluids and salt-rich environments. In one aspect, fabricating microengines includes depositing a polymer layer on a membrane template, depositing a conductive metal layer on the polymer layer, and dissolving the membrane template to release the multilayer microtubes.
Abstract:
Durable seamless replication tools are disclosed for replication of seamless relief patterns in desired media, for example in optical recording or data storage media. Methods of making such durable replication tools are disclosed, including preparing a recording substrate on the inner surface of a support cylinder, recording and developing a relief pattern in the substrate, creating a durable negative relief replica of the pattern, extracting the resulting durable tool sleeve from a processing cell, and mounting the tool sleeve on a mounting fixture. Apparatus are disclosed for fabricating such seamless replication tools, including systems for recording a desired relief pattern on a photosensitive layer on an inner surface of a support cylinder. Also disclosed are electrodeposition cells for forming a durable tool sleeve having a desired relief pattern. The replication tool relief features may have critical dimensions down to the micron and nanometer regime.
Abstract:
Devices to detect a substance and methods of producing such a device are disclosed. An example device to detect a substance includes a housing defining a first chamber and a substrate coupled to the housing. The substrate includes nanostructures positioned within the first chamber. The nanostructures are to react to the substance when exposed thereto. The device includes a first heater positioned within the first chamber. The heater is to heat at least a portion of the substance to ready the device for analysis.
Abstract:
Method for manufacturing an electroformed timepiece component: the same first alloy including a first precious metal is selected to make both functional inserts and an electroformed shell; these inserts are made; an electroforming substrate having a complementary profile to the inner profile of this component is formed in a second sacrificial material; these inserts are inserted into housings made on this substrate, to form an equipped sacrificial substrate, which is provided with the resists necessary to obtain, by means of an electroforming process, a bare electroformed component, with deposition of material on this substrate, acting as a core to form this electroformed shell, and on each accessible surface of each insert to secure the insert to this electroformed shell; then this sacrificial substrate is destroyed and all of these resists are removed.
Abstract:
Electroformed housings for electronic devices and methods for making the same are provided. An electronic device is provided having at least one electronic part and an electroformed housing constructed from a metal that encloses the at least one electronic part.
