    摘要: A light source combines colored light from different LED sources to provide white light output. Multiple LEDs emitting light at different peak wavelengths may be disposed on a flexible substrate, the LEDs being close to an aperture formed in the substrate. Multiple mirrors, including at least one dichroic mirror, are oriented to reflect light from the multiple LEDs into the aperture. The flexible substrate includes a dielectric layer having a cavity region and an adjacent neighboring region that is thicker than the cavity region. The aperture and the multiple LEDs are all disposed in the cavity region of the dielectric layer. An integrating rod may be coupled to the aperture to receive the reflected light from the multiple LEDs.

The optical elements can be configured as color combiners that receive different wavelength spectrums of light and produce a combined light output that includes the different wavelength spectrums of light. In one aspect, the received light inputs are unpolarized, and the combined light output is polarized in a desired state. The optical elements can be configured to minimize the passage of light which may be damaging to wavelength-sensitive components in the light combiner. Image projectors using the color combiners can include imaging modules that operate by reflecting or transmitting polarized light.

    摘要: A white light source includes a short wavelength LED and a phosphor layer that emits light at longer visible wavelengths. A dichroic reflector transmits the longer wavelength light, and reflects some LED light onto the phosphor such that as light travels from the LED to the dichroic reflector it does not pass through the phosphor. The LED may emit blue light, and the dichroic reflector may transmit a second portion of the LED light, such that the light source output light includes both the second portion of the LED light and the longer wavelength phosphor light. The LED may be mounted on a flexible substrate having a cavity region and neighboring region, the LED being mounted in the cavity region. A dielectric layer may be thinner in the cavity region than in the neighboring region, or a hole may extend completely through the dielectric layer in the cavity region.

    摘要: A broadband light source includes a phosphor layer excited by light from multiple LEDs. A dichroic reflector reflects light from the LEDs onto the phosphor layer. First and second LEDs are responsible for first and second broadband portions respectively of a broadband output light of the source, each such broadband portion being broadband and nominally white. The device components are configured and arranged so that the first and second broadband light portions have different CIE color coordinates. These portions combine to yield a resultant color for the overall broadband light output of the source, which resultant color is a func tion of the relative amounts of the first and second broadband light portions. An open-loop or closed-loop controller can independently drive the LEDs to provide a desired mix of the broadband light portions so that the overall broadband light output has a color in a desired design space.
