摘要: A disk arthroplasty device (310) is provided for replacement of a spinal disk. The device is implantable into a resected disk space and is formed with ball (346) and socket (326) members and shaped to provide lateral bending and backward extension of up to about 5.degree. and forward flexion of up to about 15.degree.. Four embodiments (10), (110), (210) and (310) permit up to about 5.degree. axial rotation and a fifth embodiment (410) permits unrestricted axial rotation. Metal insert cups (70) and (170) are provided for attaching to the device surfaces and are convexly shaped along one axis to conform to the natural contours of the top and bottom vertebra surfaces. The metal insert cups (70) and (170) provide tensile support to the structure and provide for the attachment of additional structures for retaining the device in position after implantation into a disk space.

摘要: A disk arthroplasty device (310) is provided for replacement of a spinal disk. 摘要: Laterally expanding vertebral spacer devices are provided for repairing damaged vertebral discs. The vertebral spacer devices maintain the height of a distracted vertebral disc space while providing stability to the spine. In one form of the invention, a vertebral spacer device is provided with a first arm movably coupled to a second arm. The first and second arms are laterally expandable from a first width for insertion into the disc space to a second width after insertion into the disc space. The first and second arms also define a cavity therebetween for placement of bone growth material.

摘要: A removable protective covering is provided that can be secured about an external fixation device on the upper or lower extremity of a patient. The covering includes a fabric form that is sized and configured to accommodate varying sizes of external fixation devices and uses readily engageable/releasable closure elements or fasteners to securely engage the covering about the fixator and the extremity. A drawstring closure may be provided at the open ends of the covering to tighten the end about the patient's limb. Ventilation features may be provided including vents with and without additional devices to generate air flow through the covering. The covering for a lower extremity fixation device may be configured for removably attachment to a foot plate and the foot plate itself may be configured to support or attach to the fixation device.

摘要: This invention relates to implants formed from donor bone for use in lumbar interbody fusion procedures and instruments for performing such procedures. The implants are formed to include a concave surface formed from a portion of the medullary canal of a long bone. The concave surface defines a recess in the implant that serves as a depot for osteogenic material. Specific instruments for inserting the implants prepared according to this invention and for preparing the intervertebral space to receive the implants are also provided.

摘要: Spinal spacers 20 are provided for fusion of a motion segment. The spacers include a load bearing member 21 having a wall 22 sized for engagement within a space between adjacent vertebrae to maintain the space and an effective amount of an osteogenic composition to stimulate osteoinduction. The osteogenic composition includes a substantially pure osteogenic factor in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. In one embodiment the load bearing member includes a bone graft impregnated in an osteogenic composition. In another embodiment, the osteogenic composition 30 is packed within a chamber 25 defined in the graft. Any suitable configuration of a bone graft is contemplated, including bone dowels, D-shaped spacers and cortical rings.

摘要: Implantable devices useful for creating bony fusion particularly in intervetebral spinal fusion. The device is formed of bone and has an at least partially demineralized portion between two rigid bone portions creating an area of flexibility. In one application, the area of flexibility may be used to move the device between a reduced size insertion configuration and an expanded implanted configuration. In another use, the area of flexibility may be useful to dampen shock applied to the implant. A method is also disclosed for making the implants and inserting the implants into an intervertebral disc space to promote interbody fusion.

摘要: An adjustable vertebral body replacement implant and assembly includes a thin-walled cylindrical body configured to span over most of the length between intact vertebrae when damaged or diseased vertebrae have been removed. The cylindrical body defines a hollow interior with a plurality of bone-ingrowth apertures communicating with the interior. The replacement assembly further includes endplates configured to contact the adjacent vertebra and to engage the cylindrical body therebetween. The cylindrical body and the endplates include mating threads to permit adjustment of the overall height of the implant. A means for fixing the cylindrical body to the endplates is contemplated, which in one embodiment is a set screw for locking the components in place. In another embodiment, the means for fixing includes a crimping channel and notch defined in the endplates to be crimped onto the cylindrical body. A means for connecting the replacement implant to a longitudinal member is provided, which in one embodiment contemplates a clamp and screw assembly. In another embodiment, the means for connecting includes an arm projecting from the endplates with an opening to receive the longitudinal member therethrough.
